Throwing away all my other socks
As an experiment, a little over four years ago I bought three pairs of these socks, threw away all of my other socks, and set about wearing these to work (and play, and formal occasions) every single day. I wanted to know if they would hold up, and I wanted to know if I could live with only three pairs of socks. The short answer: yes and yes.I work between 10 and 16 hours each day and work between 4 and 6 days each week. I spend most of each day walking inside and outside. Somehow (almost magically, as I wear leather boots to work), these socks have been comfortable (in both hot and pretty cold weather), kept my feet dry, and been free of odor every single day (even when I wore them two days in a row). I have never worn socks that I found to be more comfortable. I have (after over four years of merciless use and countless wash/dry cycles) just now worn holes in the toenail area of two of the pairs.I know Darn Tough would probably replace these for free, but I will be buying a couple new pairs to replace the pairs I finally wore out just because I want to support a company that makes such an outstanding product. If you're looking for a durable, comfortable sock that works for a variety of applications, look no further.
UPDATE June 2020These socks are still going strong with almost daily use. I have since moved to Alaska and I still prefer these unless it's really cold in the winter or on duty flights where I like thick socks.Just last month I put over 50 miles on 3 pair of these out hiking, not including the use they see on duty, and they show no thin spots and have not lost any cushion. I had to buy more because I fell victim to the wife tax, she has claimed 67% of my DT socks as her ownOk folks, LT. Dan was right, take care of your feet. Seriously, if you've never owned a pair of quality socks you'll be amazed at the difference they can make. I'm active duty Coast Guard and wear boots all day and Darn tough is my go to brand. The wool blends they use are awesome and the construction is robust yet comfortable. The most comfortable socks I own by an order of magnitude. And the have a lifetime guarantee! How can you argue with that. Sure they're expensive but it's worth every penny to take care of your feet. Don't be fooled into thinking that wool socks are only for cold climates. These aren't thick hunting socks. I wear these very socks every day I'm on duty in Florida, summer or winter, and they perform admirably. The right amount of cushion and thin in the top for breathability. The seams in the toes are unnoticeable. I used to get blisters from my smart wool socks because the seam rubbed on the top of my toes. Not with Darn Tough! I'm telling you a more perfect sock isn't made!
These are good socks! They are great for winter. They run small. Go a size up. I like that they cover your calves when it’s cold outside. They’re a little speedy. But nice to have.
Excellent product. Granted I've had them for only a short period of time, I'm happy with them. Consider them a thinner wool sock suited to replace a dress sock in the colder months. The socks is more casual so you wouldn't wear it with a suit but they thin enough to wear it like that if required. It's a heavy duty thin wool sock, not your traditional thick wool boot sock. I plan on buying more if they offer other colors. I wear them with jeans and loafers during the cooler months. I prefer to have cool feet, I dislike hot feet. These are great for added padding and comfort and adding just the right amount of warmth. Very very durable too. Two thumbs up
I think I’ve finally found the perfect daily sock! I prefer to wear wool year-round because it breathes so well. They keep my feet cool and dry in the summer, and warm in the winter. Probably because wool is so good at shedding moisture. I wear black business socks all week. I’ve been through at least ten brands over the last 5-6 years, and every sock I’ve tried has disappointed in one way or another. What I like about these: first, the feel is amazing! On or off, you can see and feel the quality! The black is jet black. The material on the top of my foot and on my leg is thick enough not to show skin through the material. Yet it’s not overly heavy. The entire bottom of the sock is padded, giving cushion and breathing room. When you remove the socks from packaging, each one is about a 1/4” inch thick (folded of course). I’m 6’3”, 220 lbs. the socks come up my leg far enough to never show skin at the bottom of my pant leg, and yet they aren’t so tall as to come up fully over my calves. In a word, they seem perfect for what I’ve be searching for!At $25/pair, they are admittedly on the pricey side. That said, I should’ve bought a half dozen pair. I’m just not sure there’s a better sock to be found. And no, I’m not affiliated with the maker. I paid full price! I’m just happy to have found a good sock. Who’d of guessed?! I found it in the good ol’ USA!
Good comfort, seems to be pretty durable. The socks run a bit on the small side. Only downside is “darn tough” text branding on the sock is a bit painful to look at, but otherwise good sock
On the first pair I purchased, I decided to order 1 size up when I kept reading about Darn Tough's "performance fit". They fit like compression socks and are very snug. This is my second pair and this time I ordered my regular size. They fit just as snug as 1 size larger, but these ones fit more appropriately in the foot... and especially the heel. Ordering a larger size will not give you any extra room in the leg portion, only in the foot. With the larger pair I ordered, my heel doesn't fit exactly where it should, but it's ok. The density of the weave in the heel is tighter than its surrounding areas in order to take the stress of weight distribution through your heel. Even if you normally don't wear compression socks, it would be a good idea to buy a pair of donning gloves. The grippy palms of compression sock gloves makes it much easier to pull the socks into place without digging your fingertips or fingernails into the fabric and maybe damaging them. If you have larger legs or someone who has larger calves, Darn Tough may not be the socks for you. Merino wool is truly an impressive textile and Darn Tough socks are all they appear to be...and more. They take a bit of adjustment to get used to their "performance fit" and the fact that they are not made of 100% cotton like most of us are used to, but so far I have worn them for 3 days in a row for 8 hours a day and my feet have stayed comfortable & completely dry. Only once I took them off that I became aware that the material felt moist to the touch and practically dried totally out in 30 minutes or so... and still smelled like I just opened the packaging for the first time. Absolutely remarkable and Dearborn Supply is one of the bonafide dealers of Darn Tough Socks on Amazon according to their company website.
I bought these for my brother in law as a gift. He says they are now one of his everyday essentials. As he works outside, he needs comfortable and hard-wearing socks. These socks can't be beaten!According to BIL, they are "the best socks I have".
These socks were a requested gift for my 21 year old son. He is wearing them a lot and thinks they're a good product. Says they're comfortable. He especially liked the lifetime guarantee.
Read the fine print, this is for one pair of socks only. Have no idea why they cost so much.
The material feels more like 'tights' or nylon. They're ok, but I prefer a more ordinary sock.
