Bought this as a gift for my dad because he loves fruitcake and Jane Parker's was on a lot of people's list as one of the top no-alcohol versions. It was a disaster of a gift.First, you don't get what is pictured. The picture is a rectangular loaf. What came was a round loaf.Second, when he opened it, it was all falling apart inside the packaging. Fortunately, my dad is super forgiving and said it's the taste that counts, but it was super embarrassing to give a gift that looked so awful. As for the taste, it didn't make up for the terrible presentation. It was fine but not great. The nuts on top were bland and a little stale. The cake was sweet without much spice. And it crumbled so much, I understand why other reviewers say it's dry even though I actually think it's pretty moist. It's so expensive and looks terrible that I definitely would never buy this or anything else from Jane Parker again. Fortunately, I had picked up another brand on a whim which was way cheaper and delicious so it wasn't a totally embarrassing gift giving day.
2 lb dark fruitcake ring, arrived packed in white cardboard box. Cake was in sealed plastic. All this is ok, but it already was a bit broken apart. The flavor was excellent and amount of nuts and fruit was great. The expiration date on box was about a year in future (so it wasn’t close to expiration) but its appearance was that it crumbled with a touch and it was almost impossible to cut a neat slice, it basically crumbled.. It was moist, or at least didn’t seem dry, but maybe it needed to be more moist ( which ends up meaning more sticky?)I don’t soak fruitcake in alcohol as some people traditionally do. But. I am going to try with the remaining cake ( soak for extended time in a bit of brandy) to see if this converts it to a more solid crumb or denser cake.
Maybe memories cannot be repurchased. I, like others had high hopes as I anxiously awaited this fruitcake. It is a heavy cake but not as large as you would think. I ate maybe two slices. I gave it to my brother who loved it. But for me not so much. The fruit cakes in my memory, that I ate with my Mother were very dark and had those big glistening red and green fruits mixed in, all big and round and mixed in with the nuts. There was equal cake and fruit. Dark rich moist cake. The Jane Parker cake was mostly cake and a bit dry. The cake color was not as dark as I thought it would be. I was prepared to pay the cost for an excellent fruit cake. Not a total loss but no where near my quest for the memory. From reviews of others searching this seems to be the best out there. So I guess the solution is bake your own via memory.
I have been buying this brand and type of fruitcake for years. While there are a lot of jokes about fruitcake, so much so that I think it has helped diminish sales, I think fruitcake to be very tasty and a symbol of the Christmas of my youth.I especially like the DARK fruitcake, because it has the flavor of Molasses (mild, to be sure) that the lighter cake does not have. The Jane Parker fruitcake is filled with raisins, candied citrus fruit rinds, Maraschino cherries and nuts; it is covered with pecans and lightly glazed. While all this makes a calorie heavy dessert, hey, it's only once a year, being only seasonally available. You may balk at the price for a small offering but, considering the contents, you can't get any more for much less or any less at all. Because the cake is so rich, the serving slices are small and you can stretch it out in many servings. While I used to buy this product in the A&P or Super Fresh stores, this year I could only find the "Classic" light cake variety in the store and it's so much easier to buy this item on line anyway. This year there was no shipping charge and the fruitcake arrived promptly. You can be sure I will be back again next year.
My husband really likes fruitcake. We get one every year locally either grocery store, Costco or bakery. Low supply this year so based on reviews ordered from Amazon. Very dry. Very expensive . Flavor Very strong which isn't a deal breaker ... but the texture is horribly dry.
Jane Parker Dark Fruit Cake is my all time favorite fruitcake. It is not "gummy" like most fruitcakes. It has a wonderful batter with select fruits and nuts. It does not contain a lot of citrus and bitter peel like most fruit cakes. I use to buy it every year at the A&P Grocery Stores until there was no longer one still open in my area. I was very disappointed when it was no longer available and was delighted when I discovered that it was available through Amazon.com. I ordered the 32 oz. size and, I am ashamed to say, did not share it with anyone. I kept it out of sight until I had eaten every bite of it over a two week period. I plan to order two next year - one for me and one to share, It's the best!
I have been searching for the Jane Parker fruitcake for several months. I remember when I was a kid my mother buying these at the local A & P stores. Time passed, things changed and the A & P stores moved out of town and we no longer had access to these delicious cakes. This was many years ago. I recently decided to go on a quest to try to find the fruitcake. So, saddled with a computer and the internet I began my quest. Off to far-off places I went electronically in search of the cake. Lo and behold after hours of searching I found the cakes on Amazon.com. Tickled to pieces I ordered the 32 oz. Jane Parker Dark Fruit Cake (My personal favorite) and awaited its' arrival. My cake quickly arrived and I immediately tore into it. It was like stepping back in time as the taste and aroma enveloped my senses. Needless to say I was very well pleased to have found an old favorite. Thank you Amazon.com for bringing back an old friend.Sincerely,William

The Jane Parker Story
Jane Parker Dark Fruit Cake
Jane Parker Fruitcakes are Delicious Fruit Cakes
Enjoy Jane Parker Fruitcakes at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any time at all
1930's
Jane Parker is a brand that has symbolized premium quality baked goods. For over 80 years all products were baked for and sold exclusively at over 16,000 A&P supermarkets across America.
1940's - 1970's
Over the next 40 years and across multiple generations, Americans made Jane Parker products a part of their daily lives. During the holidays, a Jane Parker Fruit Cake was a family tradition.
1980's - 2016
Over time, A&P’s footprint across America declined, and as stores closed, Jane Parker products became harder to find. Eventually A&P filed for bankruptcy and the Jane Parker brand, products, and beloved fruit cake was thought to be gone forever.
2017 - Present
Two brothers, Chris & Alex Ronacher rescued the Jane Parker brand along with all the original recipes and begin baking the beloved fruit cakes again. To the delight of customers everywhere, Jane Parker is back, and the tradition continues!
When we heard the news about the Jane Parker brand being lost forever, our first thoughts were that we had to rescue it.
How would the Holidays ever be the same again without a Jane Parker Fruit Cake?
Mom & Dad, Grandma & Grandpa, and millions of families across America grew up enjoying Jane Parker fruit cakes, and it was part of family tradition.
So, when the rights to the brand, along with all original recipes were being held in a bankruptcy liquidation sale, we put in a bid....and we won!
With the support of our family, help from friends, and an amazing relationship we formed with our baker and suppliers, we were able to successfully bring this beloved brand back into production, all right here in the USA.
We are so pleased to know that rescuing this iconic American brand has brought happiness to so many families across America.
Everyone can once again enjoy a premium quality Jane Parker Fruit Cake, and the tradition continues!!
