This past Christmas, after an online search for a real, grownup's fruit cake I stumbled upon Trappist Abbey and ordered a 1lb cake. Yes the one pounder is smaller that I imagined but, believe me when I tell you that one bite of this fruitcake and any concerns about the cost per ounce will evaporate. It tasted like the kind of fruitcake I had as a child back in the 60s before American pallets had been dulled by corn syrup and bleached flour. Some time since then, the store-bought fruitcakes had really become dumbed-down affairs.Because the Trappist Abbey fruitcake is rich and potent, a slice less than a half inch thick was enough as a serving. The cake was nice and dense and when you hold it up to the light the fruit pieces took on the look of a stained glass window. Oh man!For those like myself who love authentic fruitcake, I think you would agree that this one satisfies the craving. I have returned to this page to order another, I am not going to wait until next Christmas to enjoy this absolute jewel again. Pricey? Yes, but I'll budget around it.

I haven't even opened this. I am so disappointed! The fruitcake is 3inches square! About enough for 2 servings! The price was much too high for what I got. Buyer beware.

This is yummy. We slice a 1/2” or thiner piece and pair it with wine, cheese, a charcuterie, or a cup of tea. It’s loaded with fruit and nuts in a dark gingerbread moist cake. The cake only holds the generous fruit and nuts in place. We are going for the brandy Trappist Abby fruitcake next.

I would’ve given five stars if this was more like the fruitcake, I generally enjoy. I found that it was a little dry and that the flavor was not as strong as I’m used to. The strongest flavor is molasses, which I guess is not surprising since it’s a dark cake. I, personally, will not purchase it again. The price was very reasonable compared to the others for sale and it is fresh. So if this is the type of fruitcake that you like, I highly recommend, if not, you may want to look at some other ones before you purchase. I won’t be eating any more of it, which is a shame because I don’t know anybody else that likes fruit cake.

Look carefully at the photo of the product. It is an actual photo of the WHOLE product... i.e. it's not a small loaf but rather a tiny loaf. It is a perfect square... i.e. only as long as it is wide. Not rectangular. It is tasty, rich but was a tiny bit dry for my taste.Perhaps next year I will just get the larger round cookie tin shaped ones for (in Dec 2024) just under $50.

I do not even like fruit cake and I think this is delicious. One small slice with evening tea makes the perfect bedtime snack. I think it is made with candied cherries and pineapple with lots of nuts without any of that awful tasting citron. I think that is the difference.I had their fig cake and loved it so just tried this as a lark and I was very surprised.Yes it is very small and it seems expensive because of that. But I think it's worth every penny.I store it in the refrigerator tightly wrapped in heavy duty foil and it stays moist and is very dense.I read here another satisfied buyer soaked her cake in brandy before enjoying. I will try that with the next one I buy. It will add yet another dimension.I'm guessing the kids won't even want to taste this. I would not have gotten anywhere near it when I was a kid.

Moist, amazing, and I thought the flavor hit all the right notes of a damn good fruitcake. Would recommend.

I love fruitcake and this one is really rich and flavorful. It’s expensive, but it’s so dense that even the tiny one that I bought will yield 6 to 9 thin but satisfying slices. I will definitely buy this again.
