I have only worn these twice so far but my initial observations are that they are very well constructed. The attention to detail is obvious. Well cushioned footbed. Large size fit my flat, wide size 11 feet perfectly. Fine gauge merino wool is very soft with no itch factor at all. No slipping, bunching or seams rubbing. It know they are expensive for a sock, but if you work on your feet or hike, they are worth the investment.

I purchased 3 pair of these for my son and he asked for a 4th pair. He wears them constantly and loves them. This color goes well with most of his pants. He owns 3 pair each of this same Darn Tough style of black, charcoal, blue, and grey and this is by far his favorite color. With 16 pairs of Darn Tough Socks he is set and can wear two pair a day if needed and still only do laundry once a week. They are still going strong. His feet don’t stink. They are still comfortable. Best investment ever.

This is not a six pack of socks, it's just the one. Socks are good quality, fairly warm for Melbourne winter weather, but don't spend your money here for what is advertised as a six pack. I'm lucky I only paid $24.

This review involves a long-ish story, but I’ve been told it’s worth it, so bear with me.I was first recommended Darn Tough by a co-worker who swears by them. He was a veteran hiker/outdoorsman and he gave them his highest praise. I was new to the world of wool socks, and initially I balked at the price of this glorious product. After a month of visiting amazon just to hover over the ‘add to cart’ button and then leave, he (like a true friend) badgered me into buying just one pair, for a trial. They arrived quickly and OH SWEET LORD I loved them. Upon the first wear, they fit snugly but not tight, they felt soft and smooth, with the perfect amount of cushioning; like they would protect me from all of the world’s evil. Like a Merino sheep was giving my feet a heartfelt hug.Fast forward a week. I have worn (and washed) the socks 3 times already, and wife asks where these new socks came from. I let her know I ordered them from amazon and that they were AMAZING. The rest of the conversation went something like this:Wife: “You ordered ONE pair of socks? How much do they cost?”Me: “hehe.. Well...depending on the style, somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 a pair”Wife: “WHAT!?! You spent $20 on ONE PAIR OF SOCKS?!?”Me: “Yes, but love them. AND they have a lifetime warranty”Wife: “What if you lose one of them? You’ll have a warrantied lone sock”Me: “Never. I will protect these socks like I would a child. You wouldnt understand.”Wife: “You lose socks constantly. This is going to be a waste of money!”Me: “I AM NOT GOING TO LOSE THE SOCKS!”Wife: “Wanna Bet?”Me: “Sure. What are the stakes?”Wife: **Thinks about it** “...If you lose one of these socks within 6 months, you have to give me a 20 minute back rub EVERY night for a month”Me: “ooookay….what do I get?”Wife: “What do you want?”** I merely looked at her, and smiled for her to realize what I (and every guy) would want as payment.Wife: **rolls eyes and sighs** “Fine, I’ll do one a week for a month. Not that it matters. You’re gonna lose the socks within 2 months.”ME: “DEAL!!!”Quick math check on the stakes here:Hers: 20 minute massage X 30 Days in a row = 600 minutes of massage (or 10 HOURS)Mine: 5 minute ‘massage’ X 4 weeks in a month = 20 minutes of ‘massage’Seems like a sweet deal for her…We agree that neither will cheat - I will continue to wear them as often as I can, and she will not attempt to hide them or cause me to unfairly lose a sock.4 months pass… I have not lost the socks! I still love them. They greet my foot like an old friend, remembering every gritty detail and accepting them with the same softness and warmth. But they also still feel fresh and new every time I wear them. These socks are everything right in the world. Around this time, my parents (unaware of the bet) buy me 5 more pairs of these exact same Darn Toughs for christmas (HALLELUJAH!). As exciting as this is, I won’t be deprived of my payout on the bet because of a technicality. I shelve the socks, still in their packaging. They will have to wait.I had a scare at the 5 month mark. Two days in a row I had not found my socks after a brief search, and I was beginning to be worried. Not when I’m this close! I won’t lose now! On the third day I commit to a thorough search, and find them sticking out from underneath the laundry basket. Disaster avoided! We’re back in business! Wife was visibly upset when she saw me with them again. I guess she had seen them there and hoped I wouldn’t be able to find them. Little did she realize I would move mountains for these socks. Finally the day comes. 6 months! My victory is upon me. I decide the best way to claim victory is to approach her after the kids are asleep. She’s lying on the foot of the bed, doing something on her phone (facebook or instagram maybe)I’m wearing ONLY the Darn Toughs, but she hasn't noticed me yet. She’s probably ‘liking‘ someone's post about their dinner. I do my best ‘Captain Morgan’ on the edge for the bed. Here’s what followed: **SPOILER - It’s appropriate for the Amazon reviews page**Me: “Hey Babe. Know what day it is?”>>Now she looks up<<Wife: “EWW”Me: “ 6 MONTHS! PAY UP!”Wife: “What are you talking about?”>>WHAT?!? OH NO YOU DIDN’T! You are NOT playing that card on me.<<Me: “...The bet. The sock bet. It’s been six months and I still have them!”Wife: “Oh, that… What was the bet again?”>>IS SHE KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? WOMAN YOU KNOW WHAT THE BET WAS!<<Me: “I would give you 20 minutes massage every night for a month, or you would give me….something… Once a week for a month. Don’t pretend like you don’t remember”Wife: “Oh...… Well didn’t you get a bunch of those for christmas? That makes the bet off”Me (grinning): “OH, you mean THESE socks?”>> I throw the five pairs, still wrapped, onto the bed. MUHAHAHA<<Wife: “........oh……..well……...I’m not doing it.”Me: “ So you’re saying that even though you made this bet, that we shook on it, and that you would DEFINITELY make me pay up on if I had lost, you won’t do it.”Wife: “Yeah, I’m not doing that”A part of me knew it was a long shot. Hell, all of me knew it was. But it was worth a try. The upside is that now I have 6 pair of these socks, which are still so glorious, I would believe you if you said God Himself had made them for me. Also I now get to throw this back at the wife any time she ever says ‘Wanna bet?” Thank you, Darn Tough, for making these socks. They are the best I have ever worn, and they nearly got me the happy ending I deserved.TL;DR - Wife bet me these socks weren’t worth the price; She lost the bet and didn’t pay up. Still the best socks ever.

Hands down the best socks I have ever bought. They are extremely comfortable and warm, great for my steel-toe work boots. These are the first wool socks I own that are not itchy. They certainly aren't cheap, but they are worth every penny. I am slowly converting my entire sock collection to Darn Tough socks. The quality and the lifetime guarantee can't be beat!

I don't know how I have been living my whole life with cotton socks. These are an absolute must if you are blue collar and wear boots all day. The fit is amazing and they actually wear in to the shape of your foot like a boot does. They really help with temp management hot or cold and keep the sweat wicked. They aren't too bulky and it adds an additional layer of cushion. Literally makes your feet feel better after a long day. Life time warranty too! Made in the USA! Not buying another sock after wearing these.

These are some nice socks! I wanted to try something different so I thought I’d give these a try. I usually steer clear of wool socks because they make my legs itch like crazy but I haven’t had any issues at all with these. These socks fit perfectly and feel great even as I am on my feet all day. They are the perfect length for my 6 inch boots (I think they would work good for 8 inch boots without being lower than the top). They feel very soft and have extra padding on the bottom. I am getting ready to order 5 more pairs so I can wear them every day for work. They also have a lifetime warranty, how can you go wrong? I never thought I’d spend this much for a pair of socks in my life but here I am.

Socks. We often take them for granted in this day and age. In our modern world of throw-away, disposable culture it may seem ridiculous to spend $12-20 on a single pair of socks, when you can go to a big box store and buy a 6 or 10 pack for the same price. I am here to tell you that these socks are worth it. Its a life-changing experience, really. You have to change the way you think about money, value, material things, and lifestyle. I recently challenged myself to change the way I think about both my style and expenditures on everything from the extravagant to the pedestrian. Its paying off. My approach now is to pay top-dollar for quality products made by American companies that stand behind what they make with a lifetime warranty. You can't go wrong with these socks. They are comfortable in hot and cold weather and take abuse. When (if) they wear out, return them for upgrades. Its an investment. Your feet and your life is worth it. You save money in the long run. Your closet remains clutter-free. I own 6 pair of Darn Tough, for work, play and the gym. I honestly don't think I will need to buy socks ever again, but they make so many cool styles and colorways, its probably inevitable that I will. I strongly recommend The following:-Merino Wool Micro Crew Cushion-Merino Wool No-Show Light Cushion Athletic-1/4 Merino Wool Ultra-Light AthleticPass socks to your grandkids? sounds crazy, but these are worthy.

THE ULTIMATE WORK SOCK

SUSTAINABILITY

MERINO WOOL

RECYCLED NYLON

SPANDEX/ELASTANE

SOCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

A sock that works as hard as you do. Our socks are the most comfortable and durable socks you'll ever own.

The micro crew is a shorter, more concise take on the traditional crew height. Peeks just above the top of a standard hiking boot.

No slipping, no bunching, and no blisters. The ultimate fiber for breathability and comfort in all conditions, the All Weather Performance means cool in the summer, warm in the winter.

The entire work category features cushion underfoot while select styles use terry loops in the leg above the ankle for comfort and protection. Mid-level cushion density under foot.

Undetectable seam fusion for an ultra smooth, invisible feel. Darn Tough uses high density knitting techniques, which means there are more stitches per inch. This leads to a more comfortable, durable, great fitting sock with no added bulk.

Darn Tough aims to improve the well-being of our community by locally designing and manufacturing the most comfortable, durable, best fitting socks while continuously reducing our environmental impacts.

MATERIALS IN OUR SOCKS

Every material we use in our socks has been carefully chosen and tested to meet our rigorous durability standards. We currently use natural and synthetic fibers, and only 3 types of fiber per sock. As you’d expect, we are actively investigating and testing new fibers and yarn blends that do not appear in our current products. We’ve prioritized Merino wool throughout our product lines and our goal of producing the most responsibly made product is reflected in our commitment to the success of the Responsible Wool Standard.

Merino wool is the most important and relied upon fiber in our products and accounted for 56% of our yarn consumption by weight last year. For many years we’ve prioritized the use of Merino wool exclusively from sheep that have not been exposed to the practice of mulesing. In early 2019 we made a commitment to support the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and shift 100% of our wool supply to RWS-certified Merino wool.

RWS is a voluntary standard with strict guidelines to protect animal welfare and adhere to progressive, sustainable farm and land management practices while maintaining traceability throughout the entire supply chain.

Although the market share for RWS is only estimated at ~1% of global wool production, the number of certified sources has grown substantially over the last couple years. Today, 100% of the wool we procure is RWS-certified.

We use REPREVE, a nylon 6 fiber made from pre-consumer industrial waste that would otherwise be landfilled or downcycled. Using REPREVE instead of virgin nylon allows us to offset the use of crude oil, benzene, cyclohexane, and other harmful hydrocarbons that are involved in the production of virgin fiber. In short, using recycled nylon conserves energy and water and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. While we aim to reduce our use of virgin nylon in our products, recycled nylon only accounted for 4% of our nylon consumption last year.

We’re actively working with our suppliers to source more recycled nylon so we can incorporate it across our product lines. To date, nylons generated from pre-consumer waste material have held up well against our durability requirements, but we’d like to find an equally good source of post-consumer recycled nylon or yarns that blend both pre and post-consumer nylon.

We use Lycra to provide elasticity, strength, and form-fitting comfort. While spandex accounts for no more than 5% of the fiber used in our finished product, it represented 27% of the raw materials we procured last year. Like conventional nylon, spandex is derived from petroleum and has been important to the performance of our products. Unfortunately, it’s the most difficult material in our fiber mix to replace with a recycled alternative.

When it comes to synthetics, we’re primarily focused on converting virgin nylon and polyester to recycled alternatives. However, we’re also looking for functional, recycled spandex alternatives.

We live and work in Northfield, Vermont. Our backyard is the perfect testing ground to make the finest Premium All Weather Performance Socks. We ski, snowboard, hike, bike and run in the most unforgiving climate in the lower 48. It is under these conditions that we design, test and manufacture our socks.

STILL MADE IN VERMONT, USA

After so many decades why do we still knit every pair of our socks here in Vermont? We don’t do it because it’s the easy thing to do—we do it because it’s the right thing to do. We do it because for us, it’s the only way to do it. There are faster and cheaper alternatives but nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.
