Made in Vermont - We live and work in Vermont. Our backyard is the perfect testing ground to make the finest Premium All Weather Performance Socks. We ski, snowboard, hike, bike and run in the most unforgiving climate in the lower 48. It is under these conditions that we design, test and manufacture our socks.
I work in the northern yukon. Awesome, so glad I bought these, feel good and reduced the size of my feet trying to stuff into work boots. Bought 4 pairs, plan on more. No blisters
My other boots socks were just a little too thin to keep my heel from slipping. There were the right thickness to get a good fit. They have held up to multiple runs through the washer and dryer.
I've always put a high priority on buying well made items that will last me a long time. And if possible I like them to be made in America, while country of origin dose not necessarily corilate to quality of craftsman. There's a certain amount of pride is supporting other people in my country. As someone who can't have socks for more than a couple weeks before they develop holes these have been wonderful and have held up to way more abuse than any pair of socks I've ever owned. The durability alone is reason to look into them but they are also insanely comfortable and soft and they don't bother your feet after a while day of wearing and working in them. They're definitely worth the money and a good choice if your sick of crappy mass manufactured socks.
My over-the-calf sock size is in the gray area between large and extra large. I ordered extra large and this worked well. I can put them on and remove them without thinking they are TED Hose. At age 83 this is important. Before ordering more of these socks, I waited until the first pair had been washed and dried. They passed the on-and-off test. I then ordered more. My advice is to order a size larger than you would normally wear. Try them on new and unused. If they are too tight, return them and try a size larger. If they are relatively easy to put on and remove, wash and dry them, then put them on again; if they pass the on-and-off test, you have hopefully identified your correct size. If they fail this test I doubt you can return them, but at least you know you need a larger size. Great socks, a little pricy but with a lifetime warranty. I would order again.
Working in construction inside and outside. Keeps my feet warm in the winter months when it gets below freezing Temps. I no longer wear any other brand or type of socks other than darn tough. I first started wearing them 7 years ago and I've only had to toss one pair because I wore thru then (I probably own 14 pairs). They aren't cheap, but they are high quality. They keep my feet dry in the summer and warm in the winter and I wear them 365 days a year. Whether it's 20* F or 110* F. I've never had issues with athletes foot after wearing them and I've never had cold feet when I wear the right kind. After you get over the initial price they are worth it in the long term return on investment.
These are the best socks I've ever owned. They are very warm and comfortable. In addition, I can wear them a whole day snowboarding and sweating, and they won't stink.
One thing to note is that since these are tough, thick material, they don't stretch as much as you'd expect. You may need to roll them up like a doughnut and then unroll them up your foot and leg, so the foot area isn't all twisted.
Perfect socks! Very comfy, warm and soft!
Exactly what I was looking for during the cold months coming on! Great fit, comfortable, and keeping the chill off during construction hours outside. Thanks!!
I have a fetish for nice socks. Uhhh, let me rephrase that; I have an extremely-high affinity for quality socks. I have purchased many of the top brands such as Smart Wool, Wigwam, Wrightsock, Thorlo, Drymax, premium offerings from Adidas, Asics, Nike, Brooks, New Balance, REI, and many others. Well, Darn Tough is the best. Please don't get me wrong, the others are good to great but overall, if you're serious, want the best-of-the-best, Darn Tough is the one. These Paul Bunyon's are first-rate in terms of comfort and durability, the cushioning is excellent, dry fast and they keep you warm. The one caveat is the pilling. These socks pill so much. I also have a few other Darn Tough socks and they do not pill nearly as much. I have a pill remover and needed to use it each time after the first 3 washes. After that, fortunately, the pilling settles down and you have amazing socks. Finally, I wear a Size: 13.0 shoe, width 2E, according to Darn Tough, I should have gotten XL. Instead, I went with the Large and it fits well. I think the socks run a bit large. If you are Size: 13.5 or larger, go with the XL. The Large is definitely too big for people with Size: 10-11.5 feet.
Favorite socks for every day work. I know there crazy expensive but there guaranteed for life so you will never need to buy socks again. There tight at first but loosen a little after the first couple wears. Im 6-5 and a13 shoe size. xl fits good. Could be an inch higher but other than that perfect!
Great product! Can't beat the quality!

SOCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
A sock that works as hard as you do. Our socks are the most comfortable and durable socks you'll ever own.
Over the calf, the name says it all. The ultimate height for keeping the outside, out. A sturdy companion ideal for hiking, hunting, Nordic skiing, work, and more.
No slipping, no bunching, and no blisters. The ultimate fiber for breathability and comfort in all conditions, the All Weather Performance means cool in the summer, warm in the winter.
The entire work category features cushion underfoot while select styles use terry loops in the leg above the ankle for comfort and protection. Terry loops knit throughout the entire Work sock are a full cushion of comfort and protection.
Undetectable seam fusion for an ultra smooth, invisible feel. Darn Tough uses high density knitting techniques, which means there are more stitches per inch. This leads to a more comfortable, durable, great fitting sock with no added bulk.
Darn Tough aims to improve the well-being of our community by locally designing and manufacturing the most comfortable, durable, best fitting socks while continuously reducing our environmental impacts.
MATERIALS IN OUR SOCKS
Every material we use in our socks has been carefully chosen and tested to meet our rigorous durability standards. We currently use natural and synthetic fibers, and only 3 types of fiber per sock. As you’d expect, we are actively investigating and testing new fibers and yarn blends that do not appear in our current products. We’ve prioritized Merino wool throughout our product lines and our goal of producing the most responsibly made product is reflected in our commitment to the success of the Responsible Wool Standard.
Merino wool is the most important and relied upon fiber in our products and accounted for 56% of our yarn consumption by weight last year. For many years we’ve prioritized the use of Merino wool exclusively from sheep that have not been exposed to the practice of mulesing. In early 2019 we made a commitment to support the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and shift 100% of our wool supply to RWS-certified Merino wool.
RWS is a voluntary standard with strict guidelines to protect animal welfare and adhere to progressive, sustainable farm and land management practices while maintaining traceability throughout the entire supply chain.
Although the market share for RWS is only estimated at ~1% of global wool production, the number of certified sources has grown substantially over the last couple years. Today, 100% of the wool we procure is RWS-certified.
We use REPREVE, a nylon 6 fiber made from pre-consumer industrial waste that would otherwise be landfilled or downcycled. Using REPREVE instead of virgin nylon allows us to offset the use of crude oil, benzene, cyclohexane, and other harmful hydrocarbons that are involved in the production of virgin fiber. In short, using recycled nylon conserves energy and water and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. While we aim to reduce our use of virgin nylon in our products, recycled nylon only accounted for 4% of our nylon consumption last year.
We’re actively working with our suppliers to source more recycled nylon so we can incorporate it across our product lines. To date, nylons generated from pre-consumer waste material have held up well against our durability requirements, but we’d like to find an equally good source of post-consumer recycled nylon or yarns that blend both pre and post-consumer nylon.
We use Lycra to provide elasticity, strength, and form-fitting comfort. While spandex accounts for no more than 5% of the fiber used in our finished product, it represented 27% of the raw materials we procured last year. Like conventional nylon, spandex is derived from petroleum and has been important to the performance of our products. Unfortunately, it’s the most difficult material in our fiber mix to replace with a recycled alternative.
When it comes to synthetics, we’re primarily focused on converting virgin nylon and polyester to recycled alternatives. However, we’re also looking for functional, recycled spandex alternatives.

STILL MADE IN VERMONT, USA
After so many decades why do we still knit every pair of our socks here in Vermont? We don’t do it because it’s the easy thing to do—we do it because it’s the right thing to do. We do it because for us, it’s the only way to do it. There are faster and cheaper alternatives but nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.
