Did not come on a spool...it unwinded quickly and became a mess
I use the KastKing Leader for fishing King Salmon, Ling Cod, Halibut out the Golden Gate Bridge. We get some real hogs rolling in here during the summer, as they prep for heading through the Gate and up the Sacramento River. 25, 35 and 40 pounds are not uncommon. One of the best lures for King salmon in this region is the APEX Watermelon. After losing several large salmon at the boat, when the cheap leader they come with broke, I reworked all out APEX with KastKing 30 and 40 pound. Great leader! Clear and supple, it does not hinder the action on the APEX at all, and after the fix, we have yet to lose a salmon against the side of the boat. If you fish a lot, you know leader, line, your lunch, just about anything will knot itself into a nightmare for no reason what-so-ever. We haven't had that problem with this leader, making my life a lot more pleasant with rookie fisherman, and women onboard. I use it as well for Ling Cod leader, live bait rigs, rock fish jigs, etc. Great stuff, good value. The photo is a 43 pounder brought in off Ft. Ross this summer!
This is very tough leader material. It is pretty supple to be 50lb mono and I am very happy with it so far. I have been using Trilene Big Game leader material for years and got this because what I usually get wasn't available. The Big Game Trilene leader material is fantastic...can't say enough good things...but I am not scared of this KastKing leader material one bit. It seems to perform comparably. I recommend it highly to anyone looking for a good mono leader material...almost as highly as the Trilene I have just been using the Trilene stuff for decades so I have a history with it. Give both a try. I don't think you can go wrong.
Easy to use. Very sturdy, Long quality is great
Strong line , excellent price for excellent QualityThanks
I bought this line as a mono leader to attach to my braid speed-jigging line (30 lbs), and it has fulfilled my expectations. It's quite limp, so takes a knot well, but seems very tough and abrasion resistant - speed jigging is hard on gear, and I need a leader line that gives me confidence. This is it - strong, low-stretch and clear in the water - and cheaper than flouro! Great spool too, keeping the line from escaping. Recommended.
Es perfecto para los primeros Díez metros del carrete un color poco visible para la visión del pescado espero que aguante
Update: I still give this product a 1 star review, but Kastking customer service apparently read this review and has gone above and beyond to remedy my inconvenience. They were willing to send me a replacement spool or refund my money. I am still a fan of Kastking products, just not this durablend leader.Original review: I bought the 80lb for offshore saltwater fishing. Mainly for grouper and red snapper. We lost numerous red snapper today. We even had a 15” red grouper we caught that still has one of the other broke lines still in his mouth. If a 80lb leader can’t handle the initial strike of a 15” 2lb grouper without breaking, then it has to be super cheap. I would avoid this leader if you want to land fish.Edit with Video:I did a test with this 80lb durablend junk against 80lb Trilene and even 50lb Kastking Kovert. The only one I could snap by yanking on it by hand was the 80lb durablend. You need big leader that can handle a quick powerful yank like a grouper or snapper will do. This durablend junk will not do it. However, their Kovert fluorocarbon will. Trilene will too.
Only if you want smaller spool.
Good quality for the price.
I received this product at a promotional price in exchange for my unbiased review. I have purchased other KastKing products at full retail and I guess that has put me on their promotional list for reviews. All of the KastKing products I have purchased over the year have been excellent quality equal or better than higher priced name brand products. Most of my freshwater fishing has not required leaders and a recent trip to the keys has been my first experience using monofilament leaders. I bought a higher end leader for my keys fishing trip and found it to be well made and easy to tie. Knots held well with no apparent loss of strength. The Kastking leader appears to be of very similar quality to the expensive leader I bought. Knots I have tied with this leader are equally as strong and hold well. Though I have not got it in the water yet, as with all other KastKing products I have used, this leader is an excellent priced equivalent to name brand products. I expect KastKing to become a familiar name in fishing by selling affordable, quality fishing products.
Due to the outrageous price of fluorocarbon I tried this to make leaders for the Albie, bass and bluefish blitz in New England and was pleasantly surprised. The pictures attached to this review are of the 50 lb durablend leader I tied and used for an entire day on the water. This leader landed approximately 10 stripers, 10 bluefish and 2 albies with ZERO issues - I did not have to replace it all day, and although I will replace it next time I go out it is probably perfectly fine to use again. If you're on the fence about purchasing this product, give it a shot, it is an excellent value for the money. Compared apples to apples with pure fluorocarbon it definitely has a little bit of stretch but otherwise it is identical - completely disappears in water and is extremely tough, the very tiny little bit of stretch is negligible and ultimately irrelevant in any fishing application I can think of. It ties a very sturdy knot and holds strong I will be using this for my leaders from now on.
