This briefcase is high quality and you can tell at first sight. There is a lot of difference between a cheap canvas bag and this genuine leather waxed canvas bag. This briefcase is sturdy, well made, and hold perfect shape. The zipper functions well and it has many pockets and compartments that can be used for different items. There is for example, a padded space dedicated exclusively to your laptop or tablet so it's kept totally safe, even after heavy motion. The strap is adjustable so you can make it fit comfortably on your shoulders. The bag size is large so many things can be stored in there. The snap opening makes it very easy to have a quick access to your stuff as soon as you need it. Finally, the color pattern is classic and vintage theme and just looks great!
This waxed canvas laptop bag is perfect and matches my waxed canvas backpack. It's well made and will last for many years. I modified mine a bit. I added patches, remove the leather straps and put them on the back for a luggage strap. I added a handle on the top and brass gun-metal snaps on the pockets.
**UPDATE AFTER A WEEK OF USE**I wrote the original text below after only having this bag a day, and I feel after a week of use I should update it to better reflect my experiences. This is a great bag, and the more I use it the more I don't miss having the outer pockets. My old bag had an outer pocket where I would shove my hat and sunglasses after sundown, but that took only a few days to get over. The truth is, the 2 side pockets under the front flap are huge, with plenty of room to hold the things I need, and the access is quick; just lift the flap and its there.I don't understand the other reviews that complain this bag is small. It's a messenger bag, I don't think they're supposed to go on a hike or camping. They're meant for commuting and such. I am able to hold everything I need with room to spare, as the center compartment is designed to expand. I carry a few folders with papers, a 12" iPad, my wallet, a charging brick and cable, business cards, a pen, and some bandannas in the center section, in addition to my bento lunch box. At the end of the day, my hat and sunglasses can be comfortably stuffed in there with everything else and there is still plenty of room left.I also ordered a replacement strap in the same dark brown color that has the swivel hooks to prevent the strap from getting tangled on itself. The great news about that is I was able to use the original padded shoulder strap that came with the bag with this new strap. It looks like it belongs with the bag now.**END UPDATE**I got the brown one with the top carry handle and dual buckle straps. I really needed the carry handle, but I think the features of the models without the handle are just a tad better. This is a good bag and the perfect size for me. I don’t need to carry much, but I do wish this bag had more pockets, specifically on the outside. A rear zipper pouch or even an open pocket would have been much more useful than the baggage strap, which I don’t ever see myself needing. A small zipper pouch similar to the inside pouch, would have also been great on the front flap, in between the two straps.I like the two side pockets, they are the perfect size for my mini umbrella, transit card, ear buds, etc. I use a liter water bottle and that won’t fit in the side pockets, but I don’t normally carry my water like that so it doesn’t bother me. It’s more important that I can carry my essentials in those quick access pockets. My biggest gripe however, is the shoulder strap is terribly designed. It gets twisted up constantly, and I have to de-tangle it all the time. This could have been fixed by using a strap with those that swivel to attach to the rings, but instead the strap is woven through the rings and doesn’t self correct itself. I may cut this strap off and use a different one that has a swivel clip, as I can see already that this tangle mess will annoy me to no end.All in all, I do like this bag, and I would recommend it.
Overall, this is a good messenger bag. I'll start with the fact that it looks nice. The quality appears high. The stitching seems sounds and it is definitely waxed cotton. It is just smaller than expected. So, it's great for a laptop, ipad, text book, and note pad but it won't fit much more than that. As in, don't expect room for all the stuff I listed and a lunch bag or even a sandwich. Also, by laptop, I mean a MacBook Air 15", which is pretty slim. The water bottle pockets are small and I use it for a tapered 20 oz. bottle I have but it's not 1-liter-Nalgene-bottle sized and most Yeti or Hydro Flask bottles aren't going to fit. The little 16 oz ubiquitous, disposable water bottles will fit.So, just buy with open eyes; know what you're getting into. Other than being a little smaller than expected, it's a good back and should serve well. Only time will tell how durable it is.
Quality bag, nice color.
I wanted to love this bag. In fact, I do love it, with one exception: the zipper failed after about 2 weeks. Normally I'd probably just blow it off, but I was traveling when it stopped working and not being able to zip it while storing it on an airplane is pretty unfun. The build quality, other than the zipper, is quite good. As others have mentioned, the back handle looks like it will fit over a suitcase handle for travel, but it does not. I got around this by just slipping the actual leather handle over the suitcase handle. Not perfect but it mostly worked.Pros:Durable materialDecent water resistance, not waterproof, but it'll definitely bead water.reasonable capacity. I took it cross country traveling and had no issues with holding what I needed it to hold.Looks really cool. Reminds me of Indiana Jones, i half expect to pull an ancient idle or a rare artifact out of it.Cons:Shoulder strap, even with the padding, can dig into a shoulder. This is not unique to this bag, but it's worth noting the obvious: if you load it it will be heavy. This should be common sense, really. As noted in other reviews, the back handle does not fit over a suitcase handle. The zipper drags and on mine it completely split and no longer reliably works.
I found this after my LLBean messenger bag died on me and it’s better than that one! Holds my laptop, umbrella, two bottles of water, and a sandwich easily. It’s adult enough to use for work, hip enough for the younger crowd, and I’m pretty sure you could use it as a shield if you accidentally walked into the middle of a knife fight.
