The 20V MAX* XR cordless compact router provides power like a corded compact router while providing the convenience of a cordless tool. The plastic fixed base and dual LEDs help illuminate the work surface and provide superior bit visibility. This cordless router is equipped with variable-speed control for optimal bit speed in each application. The release clamp allows for quick and easy bit and base change.
This is a nice compact router. It works well. I bought this to be used on a slab sled as a cord can get in the way. My only issue is that it eats up battery power fairly quickly. Glad I have two extra batteries so I can keep going.
I bought a competitors version of this a few years back with a cord, I thought I only use it occasionally a cord is no big deal but after using it I realize that especially because this is for smaller projects the cord does get in the way. I’ve been migrating over to the Dewalt ecosystem and had a few batteries and chargers, so I thought I would give this a try and it’s not only more convenient because it’s cordless but It’s better quality than the orange cold one with the cord that I have. Plenty of torque and power, sometimes not the case with cordless tools, but this one is a winner for what it is designed to do.
I haven't used it yet, but it feels very heavy and of good quality. One thing I feel is that it's not very powerful, but that's just a perception, because I haven't put it to work yet. Something that I did love was its stop function.
Just got it last week. It has way more power than I expected. It is a phenomenal tool and addition to my shop. I gave it five stars because it is easy to change bits, adjust height, and powerful. If I had to complain about something, the base plate that comes with it can't handle a collar for a template... but I knew that when I bought it. Despite some of the comments, the LED lights work well. I think the only other thing I would add if DeWalt is listening is a dush shield on the open face side. Just something to deflect dust away from the user. Awesome tool.
After using this, i have now put my well loved but corded router. Powerful even for a battery operated router. The brake is wonderful and the LED lights helps as i mostly do my work after work and day light is limited. Will be getting the dust extractor, definitely needed.
I needed to router out the door latches on 9 doors in my house, I was able to mark the area, set the depth and free hand all the cuts. It made the job so much easier compared to chiselling out the slot and trying to figure out the depth. I went on to use this for a couple of trim cuts on the box I made and again it handled it like a champ. Love the easy adjustment, love the power from this and honestly I have nothing negative that I can say. Great tool in the arsenal!
Love it use it all the time. Light handy efficient. Recommend getting plunge base as well. Nice handy little tool. Pretty descent in batteries. Small batteries might deplete quickly . Have a few big batteries for large projects even small batteries in for small projects. Really do like this only thing that personaly bugs me is the power switch is a pain to in and off but it's for safety I'm sure so idiots don't hurt themselves I understand but I hate all this bubble safety crap usually I take it off my tools guards locks all that crap lol. But the world we live in I understand DeWalt . Tool is very nice
his router is a beast. I’ve used corded routers for years and didn’t think going cordless would make that much of a difference—but man, it does. Not having to fight with a cord while trying to make clean passes is a game changer, especially when you’re working on edges or out in the yard.Power-wise, it holds its own. I’ve run it through hardwood and plywood, and it doesn’t bog down. Super smooth, and the depth adjustments are actually easy to dial in. Battery life is solid too—I’m running 5Ah batteries and haven’t had any issues during projects. If you’re already in the DEWALT 20V system, this is a no-brainer. It’s one of those tools that makes you wonder why you waited so long to grab it.
Powerful little guy! It has had no troubles chewing into plywood or walnut with 3/4th mortise bit. Well designed tool with respect to depth adjustments and visualization of work area. The router fits the hand well and should be hard to hurt yourself if it's being used appropriately and with care. The router loves eating down batteries though. If the LEDs are flashing it wants a new battery. Keeping the speed between 2-3 will help quite a bit, and is typically the right speed anyway. The short battery life is not overly surprising given it's job. Probably need a corded item if you have lots of routing to do.I doubt it can be avoided in any palm routers but if the battery isn't removed when changing the bit the router will eventually harm you. The power switch isn't overly guarded. The collet lock button should keep your paw away from the switch but If you're absent minded about such things you should probably stay away from the tool class. Routers don't amputate but instead maul flesh.Overall easy tool to recommend for quantity (not power) limited routing tasks for safety minded folks.
As Described.
If you're reading reviews about this router, you're probably in the process of deciding whether or not you should pull the trigger and buy it.Just do it. This is a great tool that works well, even after many hours of use. It's the perfect size/weight ratio to make it feel sturdy and stable, regardless of speed. Really solid router.
