I bought this rod for my fishing trip to the Faroe Islands last May. It fit perfectly into my backpack, which is one of the main reasons I chose it. Plus—it's KastKing! So I had to give it a try.I was a little worried at first because I’d heard cod and sea trout can be huge and serious fighters. But guess what? It held up like a champ.I caught three cod over 24 inches and a few 20-inch sea trout—no problems at all. After I got back to the States, I noticed a bit of sand got stuck in it while cleaning, so it doesn’t collapse all the way now... but I think I can still use it? Haha If you're flying to a different state and plan to fish in lakes or rivers, definitely take this rod with you.As for ocean fishing? I’d say you can confidently catch Spanish mackerel, redfish, sheepshead, and black drum with it.Tuna? Well... I’m not sure, but I’d love to find out someday
Combined with kastking reel for lightweight backpacking set up. Works decently and with 4# test can cast a trout magnet 10-15 meters. Not as light as a reel-free set-up, but just as long as my tenkara set and doesn’t need room for a backcast.Incidentally, I caught a 6” rainbow on my first cast.First rod I got came with broken eyelet that was promptly replaced -Looked like it was crushed at some point.Overall a decent little small river/pond backcountry set up. I also toss it in my car when there is a potential for fishing and it keeps well there too.
Honestly, I just can't stop raving about the KastKing Compass Fishing Rod. First of all, upon taking it out of the box, I had to say that it's really a tall and sleek piece; the design screams quality. Be one who has experience or be a beginner in the field- this rod never disappoints. What makes it stand out? First, it's lightweight yet very durable. I have used it in different conditions, from calm lakes to rougher waters, and every time, it performed just great. It has a smooth on-feel when casting and gives excellent control when reeling in your catch. For the price, you’d expect some compromises, but there aren’t any. It’s clear that KastKing has put serious thought into creating a rod that combines performance and affordability. Plus, it’s easy to transport, making it perfect for weekend trips or spontaneous fishing adventures. If you’re looking for a rod that delivers high-end performance without the high-end price, this is it. Highly recommended—don’t hesitate to add this to your gear! ????
I got mine sept 2020 and am looking to buy more.I hope they did not change quality. Looking at all the 1 star reviews.I took it fishing in california, montana, arizona and belize.Yes the tip is super bendy allowing some fish to set themselves free - pike and bonefish will get off easily. It performs beautifully as long as you don’t try to set the hook like a maniac.Small and big mouth bass, porgy, trout, catfish, bluegill, snapper.Had some snags where I had to yank the lure, hook out of rocks and branches - still works.Aligning the guides takes a while to get used to but gets easier with practice.I also have the blqckhawk which has free floating guides. That is a pain to align. That one has the guides fixed to each segment. It will not replace a fast action or a deep sea fishing rod- you will not be able to catch swordfish with it.But in a pinch, it works. And is fun.Because of the bendy tip you feel uthe fight.I wish kastking would send me some of their products for review. Or at least the missing buttcap - haha I travel a lot. Will be ordering another one and will update here on how it goes.Pros:Portability - can have one in the car all the timeReliable so farNice feel in handLightCons:It takes a little while to get used to casting accurately because of the bendy tipLost the buttcapNo other cons. I enjoy fishing with this rod.
Was a decent rod until till it broke on a cast. I wanted to try and get a few more feet on my cast to get my jig a little further so I cast it really hard but when I did, it broke right in the middle. Frustrating because it was a great size and felt really good.Update…..KastKing reached out to me and offered a replacement. The customer service was great and I have to change the review to 5 stars because I received a new rod in the mail and it seems to be solid.
For the price, it's a great telescopic rod, feels well made. I might replace the reel though, it feels pretty stiff and you do have to put a lot of effort in to closing the bail by reeling which makes me worry for the longevity of that mechanism.
First impression straight out of the box was great! This collapsible rod looks like it will satisfy my compact travel needs.Pros:LightweightCollapses to 16" long, fits in a back backEasy to extend with or without line.Somewhat easy to collapse with lineLine guides stay straight through multiple casts.Cons:Feels very flimsy like it is easy to break. The hook keeper is on the handle right where your hand goes, easy to get a hook in your hand if not paying attention.Have not caught a fish with this yet, looking forward to catching one to see how the rod performs under a load.
I had this rod for 4 months and I loved the color and the telescopic feature. It served me well and I caught plenty of fish on it. But while fishing today, I got hung up on a rock and was just doing some jerking to try to free it and SNAP. The pole just broke. It snapped clean across about a foot and a half from the reel. I'm very disappointed. Especially because I am overseas and finding a replacement will be somewhat difficult.
I don’t usually do review and I would’ve gave it a higher rating but the rod broke on the second day I took it out. I bought this for my birthday trip to south Florida. I caught a little stingray and a catfish on it so it held up pretty good. I’d give it a better rating if it didn’t snap as fast and it was on my birthday when it broke so that was pretty upsetting. I might end up getting another one but still pretty pissed about it breaking off a rock before the line but all in all a good rod just wish mine didn’t break.
