love that's its not heavy, and the reel is very smooth to use. very well made. love it thank you
Over the moon with the rod looks great came two days before expected.
Bought for my grandson that 7 years old. This was perfect and it was good quality. I went ahead and bought another one for my other grandson.
Great beginner rod for kids
This is a very nice step up from all the other kids rods I've seen or had. My 5 year old daughter can handle this pretty well and cast it. The little Mickey mouse rod she had last year was good for little fish, but we got into some 4lb bass and the reel couldn't handle them and broke. This Abu Ike spincast has held up well so far and has had a few good size bass on it.The reel works well, but is not smooth and very noisy. We've had a couple tangles so far, but they've been pretty easy to handle after popping off the cover.I don't know what the ratio is, but it's a very slow retrieve, which may be a good thing for kids. For $30, I think it's a nice setup and would probably be good for the 5-8 year old range. I do wish the reel was a little smoother though. That's my only complaint.
The "Ike Dude" spinning combo is by far the worst rod/reel combo I have ever used. I am saying this with the most honest sincerity. I am not a newby to the game either. If 10,000 hours makes you an expert at anything, then I qualify as a quadruple expert on fishing, if not more. The design of the reel is critically flawed and results in line twists and wind knots on virtually ever cast, no matter what kind of line used or how you spool it. The reel does not have a full range of motion and takes up line unevenly on the spool. I am frankly perplexed as to why Abu Garcia would put out a product of such poor quality. Moreover, I find it deeply disturbing that this combo is marketed to kids, given the absolute unusability of the product. If you are looking to pass the sport onto future generations, using this setup most definitely has the opposite effect, as it will surely turn kids off to fishing. Unfortunately, I am constantly buying many rods and reels and didn't get a chance to try this one until the return eligibilty had expired. Rather than leaving this one at the dock as a gift to strangers, as I often do, I threw it away, as giving this one away would be the opposite of a kind gesture.
Seens to be great rod combo but the rod was broken in the package.
Great little rod n reel combo! Bought it for my 4 year old grandson and he casts it super easy. Breaks down easily into two pieces for better traveling. Definitely recommend and I love the Abu Garcia line as a whole.
First day of fishing: I like the ABU Garcia brand (even thought most are not made in Switzerland anymore). They are still smooth and easy to operate. So far - no problems. Caught 23, 1+lb trout with the two from an 11 and 9 yo. I think even the 6yo caught 3 on one of them. Perfect size for kids. Lots of fun for adults who want to keep it simple. Light, smooth, and easy to transport at their size. I used the factory fishing line so far just to see what was on there...not problems at all. My go to for the not-so-veteran fisherman and guaranteed fun!Second Time Fishing: Used by an adult novice angler. Line on both reels I bought has to be replace - very curly already. Do fine with ~1 lb rainbow trout. My friend snagged a ~2.5 salmon using one of these combos and the rod tip broke at the second rod guide line at the tip. Lost the fish and was a bit embarrassing. Had it repaired for 5Euro, but now it's a shorter shorty. Will still be used by the kids for small trout/fish, but I wouldn't count on it for serious fishing of course. The fishing line turned out to be junk. Held strong, but was very curly from memory. I MAY just run the line to casting length and pull it tight to see if it will hold straight, but fishing with novice anglers, I was afraid the line would get tangled.
This rod and reel is for kids
Great little fishing rods. Ordered several for grandkids!
Excellent quality
A pretty good rod and reel for kids or adults that want a simple push button reel. The reel that came on mine would not cast at first and I needed to take it apart to align the gears better.
