Good for internet
I have been using the Arris mesh for a couple years now and they have been great. Once connected, they have been never required attention, even through power outages.
Purchased this router and the ARRIS Surfboard modem for use with Mediacom xstream internet service. They work flawlessly together. Excellent product. Easy to set up.
This is a satellite for main W121 so if original is worthless and not usable then its not ideal to keep the extension satellite.
This was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. Router was very difficult to set up, the app was slow and constantly crashed or timed out. Tech support was terrible and cost me $40 on top of what I already paid for the device only to spend a week and countless hours with tech support that just told me the same thing. “Factory reset the device and uninstall/reinstall the app”) after doing that more than 20 times and tech support unable to fix the problem I returned this router.
I have three W21's. One is connected to my existing cable modem, the other two are satellites. Each satellite has the ability to connect a gigabit ethernet port to a client. I benchmarked the satellite, and the port attains the full available bandwidth across the combined mesh bands at almost 500Gbit/sec. I have two network clients that need that sort of bandwidth that is not available just across the WiFi. This setup has been VERY reliable. As of October 2024, I believe the W21 is not in production, so Amazon must have some remaining inventory.
Not a great set up experience. Connecting with an Arris Surfboard SB8200 cable modem to Xfinity service. Spent a couple of hours last night trying to set this up and and it was just not working. I called Arris service and was told the warranty on the serial number I provided was expired and unless I wanted to pay $50 for the day they wouldn't help. Really off putting from Arris as a company. Are all these companies blood sucking leeches, sure, but ugh so gross from Arris. I was ready to return the cable modem to my local computer store and the router to Amazon. This morning I gave it another go and it finally worked! Not sure what I did other than follow some basic rebooting steps (disconnecting both devices, redownloading the app, making sure the Internet was good before reattempting the router connection). What a pain in the kister this was. Guess I won't be returning it now but wouldn't say I recommend Arris as a company. Guess I'll stick with it since I have the stuff connected now.
First, I'd like to say that I bought this from Amazon, advertised as a NEW item. It was fulfilled by Amazon.com Services LLC. It arrived in a generic white box that wasn't even sealed. The router was falling out of the box, the power cord was thrown in and tangled, the router itself had blue ink stains on it and dirty fingerprints all over it, and it was missing the quick start guide and I suspect other important paperwork. It was clearly NOT a new item, and I have contacted Amazon about this. So beware of seller! That said, so far, this router is working great! I have it paired with the Motorola MB8611 modem and things are lightning fast! The app to set things up was a little difficult (maybe would've been better if I'd had the paperwork that was supposed to be with it?) to use, but once we (Xfinity tech and I) got everything set up, it was pretty easy to navigate. There are hidden menus that take some time to discover.I have no dead spots in the house (about 1500 sq ft) and a decent range outside of the house, as well. It has definitely improved my tv streaming and everything I do on my cellphone, but since my laptop is considerably old, it only minimally improved its speed. Maybe someday I can afford a new computer, too.
