This type of device is a great idea and when it is functioning and can provide great protection from a damaging water leak.HOWEVER, the build quality is terrible. I've gone through two of these with my most recent one only lasting 7 months. The first one lasted about 2 years. Both devices had the same problem which is the cold water valve stops functioning properly and doesn't open all the way. As a result, when the washing machine pulls cold water, it is crazy loud as the water tries to flow through a partially open space. While the device itself is not too hard to install, it is time consuming and a pain... especially with a small laundry room and a stacked washer/dryer. And replacing plumbing like this always comes with risks or flood or leak. The parts of the Intelliflow are plastic and cheap so you have to be very careful not to crack or over tighten. This should be under warranty since it is only a few months old, but I have been unsuccessful in reaching anyone at the company that can help me with a replacement. If I am able to get support, I'll have to decide if I should spend the time installing my third one or if I should try our a higher rated and more solidly built device like the FloodStop washing machine leak detector. My advice if you are shopping for a new install is to look elsewhere for a device with better construction. For those not sure how it works (when it works!): It protects from floods in a very smart way, only opening the water valves when the washing machine needs it, otherwise the valves are closed so there is essentially no chance of a leak or flood.

It has been three valves in 4 years. The first one lasted 3 years, the second 8 months, and the 3rd one, two months. At least I didn't pay for the 3rd one, it was a replacement under the warranty, but it must have been refurbished since it didn't last at all. They keep telling me that it is because my waster keep draining a small amount of energy and keep the valve magnetised. That's not the case, it is just that I have a large household and I would run the washer many cycles in a day. Obviously it was not made for this. I even payed an absurd amount of money for a timer from Watts so it turns off the washer draining automatically. NOTHING changed. The second valve still broke and so did the 3rd one. Unless just do a load a day so the valve only stays open for an hour or so a day, you are not up to a good match. I am very technical, I have built many properties. Even though this has been the worse nightmare in house ownership it is by far a very annoying one. The technical support person at watts questioned my knowledge but I had done everything possible to make this to work because the idea of it was great. I switched to a regular valve and wifi water damage sensor that I linked my main water shut off. Worse scenario I get a little more water going into the floor drain. I have similar solenoid valves in my water heater so it drains in case of lost of power and it won't freeze the water instead of it. Those solenoids are magnetised 24/7 for the last 7 years and not issues. So Watts just need to use better quality to fit most household needs. I don't see anyone that have the luxury to spread out their laundry washing so it doesn't hurt the sensitive Watts valve. Usually people do all their laundry at night or on the weekends, one load after the other. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT.. waste of $$$

I bought this to replace an old watts valve that was 22 years old and started to get finicky. I decided at that age it was better to replace it then to fool around trying to fix it. Because this valve can save you from catastrophic damage it doesn’t pay to Take a chance on repairing an old one as opposed to buying a new one.

Do NOT buy this product. It is hard to install and doesn't last.I've had 3 or 4 of these over the past 20 years or so. They seem to last 5-6 years maybe before something fails. The first just stopped working, perhaps due to a power surge, although I do have a whole house surge suppressor so maybe not. I recall the second unit doing the same, it just died. The third unit died when it was no longer able to open the cold water valve more than a trickle, making the laundry take hours to finish. The latest unit (purchased in 2023) lasted about a year. It appeared to work as it should, however the flow rate through the unit was less than a gallon per minute. Without the unit in place, the flow rate was 8 gallons per minute. I will not be replacing it with another. The plastic housing is an absolutely awful design choice. It is much too easy to cross thread the fittings when trying to install. If the pipes are even slightly non-parallel or the spacing is even a fraction of an inch off, you will have great difficulty getting this thing in place. The WiFi feature borders on useless. It requires a connection to Watts' server to tell you if the moisture detector tripped via a notification or email. I'm not sure why this is useful, as I'd discover this fact myself the next time I checked on the laundry. The only somewhat useful aspect of this is to let you know your home internet connection is not working. The fact it needs to phone home to Watts' servers is also disappointing.I wanted to like this thing. I bought a bunch. It is a five star idea. The execution is zero stars.

Installation was relatively simple because it was replacing an old unit. The only difficulty was fitting the PVC bolt on the copper water pipe. The fitting was difficult because of the workspace. The WiFi setup was easy. I would recommend this product if you want that automated water shut off.

Our Story

Founded in 1874 by Joseph E. Watts in Lawrence, MA, Watts Regulator Company initially served local textile mills. By the 1880s, Watts had patented innovative steam and water pressure regulators. Acquired by Burchard Everett Horne in 1918, the company developed the Temperature and Pressure (T&P) Relief Valve in the 1930s. Relocating to Franklin, NH, in 1959, Watts expanded internationally in the 1960s and went public in 1986. Key milestones include reaching $1 billion in sales in 2006, expanding into stainless steel drainage, and launching global diversity initiatives in 2020.

Protect your home

The Intelliflow's automatic operation protects against catastrophic water damage, should a water inlet hose burst while the machine is not in use and unattended.

How it works:

The Watts Intelliflow Automatic Washing Machine Shutoff Valve uses a state-of-the-art electronic control device that senses the washing machine current flow. When the washing machine is turned on, the controls detect the current flow to the washer, opening both hot and cold water inlet valves to allow water to flow to the washing machine. When the washing machine completes the full cycle the device senses the lack of current and closes the water inlet valves. These valves remain closed until the machine is used again. The Intelliflow's automatic operation and floor mounted leak sensor protect against catastrophic water damage should a washing machine inlet hose burst while the machine is in use.
