The PENN Pursuit IV spinning fishing rod & reel combos are great for inshore, boat, and surf fishing. This combo combines the Pursuit IV spinning reel and a graphite composite rod for a durable fish-taming set-up. The reel features our proven HT-100 drag system and a 4-sealed stainless steel bearing system, making the Pursuit IV a great value for money for saltwater anglers. Now available in both inshore & nearshore travel saltwater fishing rod and reel combos for easy travel and convenient fishing! Saltwater breeds a different kind of angler. It toughens you. It cures you like bacon. It leaves you thirsty for the next fight. Hard core saltwater anglers need equipment that is as tough as they are, and as reliable as the rising tide. At PENN, we've been testing the limits of saltwater fishing since 1932, which is why our reputation for durability runs so deep. PENN. LET THE BATTLE BEGIN.
Was working just fine for eight or nine visits to the sea shore but alas gave up today. The reel body came loose and it finally jammed up. Tried to fix but looks like a casting inside snapped! Very surprised for a brand with a good reputation!
Great rod/reel combo for the price. I have several Penn Pursuit gear. For me, this is great value. Lot of “so called Pro Fishermen” will tell you that these models are junk or not worth buying, but I fish every weekend in saltwater going ~15 miles offshore in the Northeast Atlantic. Two of my Pursuit reels I’ve had for over 5 years and never had any issues.Fish all day, thoroughly rinse with fresh water when done, and let dry. No issues.I don’t see the need to spend +$500 on a rod/reel, but I’m not a “so called Pro Fishermen”.
I’ve been using this PENN Pursuit combo for a few weeks now, and I’m honestly impressed with the performance. The reel is incredibly smooth, and the drag system handles large fish like a champ. I’ve taken it out for both freshwater and saltwater fishing, and it’s held up beautifully every time. The rod has a great feel — sensitive enough to detect bites but strong enough to fight back without feeling flimsy. It’s well-balanced, lightweight, and super comfortable to use for long fishing trips.Whether you’re just getting into fishing or have years of experience, this combo is a reliable, high-quality setup that performs way above its price. Highly recommend it!
The rod was clearly broke before being shipped.. there's a whole foot or more missing in the box...
Llegó rota la caña muy mal producto es la segunda que pido y el mismo problema en menos de 3 semanas la verdad si leen mi comentario ni lo piensen comprar
The Pursuit IV has been upgraded with better bearings and seals. The price is in line with what a Wrath II would typically sell for but the Pursuit is significantly better quality product. The rod has a nice flick to it and my casting range with this combo is about 25% better than my older rig using. I'm using 40lb. braid. The packaging is poor! Whoever is putting this together for shipping is playing a fools game. It came in a 8X6 profile long carboard box. There was a single piece of brown craft paper to stop movement. Only the handle of the reel had a small amount of bubble packaging. For a few cents, some bubble-pack or more paper would make it more secure and less likely to be damaged. I was lucky and there was no damage.
Excelente caña y un gran carrete en este combo, me gusta mucho que sea de tres piezas y su estuche de primera.
Pole looks nice only complaint I have was it was shipped without a box only the reel and the tip of the rod was wrapped. Luckily there was nothing wrong with it. I just had to realign the guide rings since they were a bit off. Other then that it looks nice.
I have bought several rod and reels from Amazon but I must say, I've NEVER had one so poorly packaged and delivered so badly. Almost all the eyes were damaged on the rod (fixed most before the picture, left the big one how it arrived) either bent way back, or twisted. The packaging was how I opened the box, which is why I started photo documenting. A piece of paper not even wrapping it up, no bubble wrap, and an extremely oversized box. There's scratches on the rod (granted they're only cosmetic, but I did not pay for a blemished combo, I paid full price). I will be contacting the seller and will update this review if anything comes of it.The reel is seemingly ok and what I expected...the rod.... Not so much...I would probably NOT recommend this combo (at least from Amazon) to anyone that values their money for what they agree upon. Just buy the reel and get a rod from a local store.Or buy the combo from another seller because the quality isn't bad for the price, but you might get a damaged hunk of junk that you paid full price for, and now have to do surgery on.
I haven't taken the rod fishing yet, this is just my initial reviewThere weren't very many good reviews on here for the 4000 series reel combined with the 7' 3 piece medium travel rod (it isn't even really mentioned it's a travel rod in the posting); so I thought this would be helpful to others.I needed an ocean rod (as a freshwater fisherman) to take on a trip down south to give pier fishing a go. There's a few rod/reel combos out there seemingly specifically made for this kind of thing, this Pursuit IV combo being somewhere in the middle between the super cheap combos and the more expensive ones. So I settled on this rod. I was deciding between the 4000 and 5000 sized reel but was most intrigued by the 3 piece rod; only available with the 4000 series reel. After reading a bunch of different resources, 4000 sized reels seemed plenty big enough for most fish you'd catch on a normal pier at the ocean; so that's what I went with. Some reviews mentioned it came with a travel bag, but it was unclear if that came with all of them or just the 3 piece rod (especially since that isn't pictured when selected).Mine arrived on time, in tact and with a travel bag! And to my surprise, it wasn't just a soft bag the actual rod is protected with a hard inner casing. The reel has some internal straps to keep it steady but it's more exposed; only with soft material surrounding it in the bag. This turned out to be the exact thing I was looking for -- a compact/portable rod/reel that I can throw in the car with me and have a rod accessible when I'm on trips. Given the case is actually hard, that opens it up to potentially throwing in a larger suitcase. The rod itself fits really well together (I was a bit worried about the 3 joints). When put together you'd never notice it is a travel rod. Feels extremely sturdy with a nice backbone. The reel is super smooth and I really like the knob handle (something also not really clear in the Amazon pictures of the 4000 series). There are two things I'd complain about 1. the way the handle connects to the reel housing (you have to hold the spool as you reel backwards to tighten and the opposite to loosen (necessary to pack away in the back or switch sides). Normally you have a screw on the opposite side of the reel that you use, but in this case that's just a cap for whatever side you aren't reeling with. And 2. some of the parts (drag knob especially) feel a bit plasticy/cheap. But the overall feel of the reel seems well built and smooth. Will update after I fish with it if anything goes catastrophic, but so far I'm pretty impressed with the value of this rod with what you get -- and the function it provides a traveling fisherman.
This rod and reel combo has been spectacular. I use it as my main rod when I’m fishing in the bay or Panama City Beach pier. Has caught everything from catfish to stingrays to baby sharks. Pole is very very durable. Length is just right for bigger fishing from a pier, bridge, or beach. Very light weight and works great.
