I had the Lume Cube Go before and it was okay, but I was hoping to get a little more light output from this one. Plus, the phone app control seemed like it would be nice. When I got this Lume Cube I was really surprised how much nicer it was. The build quality of this unit appears to be quite a bit better than that of the Go. The illumination is great (1500 lumens rather than 1000), lots more control of color and saturation and a wider range of white temperature. Also, the app is really nice and seems to control the light with no lag. Even the camera mount was much more solid feeling and easier to tighten down on the camera shoe. The diffuser cover also seems to be much nicer than the Go. Diffusing the light but not cutting too much brightness. Upon first use, it seems to light the whole scene evenly at 28mm on a full-frame camera. I think I'm really going to like this light. I hope it holds up.
Overall this light is a 10/10 if you want to know if you should get it or not the answer is yes. If you want to know more about why keep reading. The construction on this panel is very nice with a solid aluminum case and mount. I primarily use this for shooting cars at night and some portraits and the brightness is the perfect level. Having quick access to warmth and brightness on the back panel is super convenient. The app also offers great control for scenes and color on the light. Plus having it as a battery bank is huge as it can save you on a shoot if all your batteries die. There was really only one con if you want to call it that to this product. That would be the mount for the camera hot shoe. The mount is okay but when you screw it into the lume cube the panel can still turn a little to easily in my opinion even when you fully tighten the collar.Do other portable panel lights do it just as good? MaybeIs this one overpriced for the name? Maybe a littleWould I buy this tomorrow if mine was stolen? Absolutely
After getting a couple of IVISII panels that I'm very happy with, I decided to give Lumecube a shot because of the app functionality, and honestly, I figured that costing three times as much, there'd be a good reason.Spoiler: there's not.ConstructionUpon arrival, the difference in construction was evident. Lumecube is thinner and lighter, but not in a good way. By comparison, it just makes it feel cheaper and more fragile than the IVISII.Hardware ControlsThe Lumecube has a power button and single dial. While the IVISII sports two dials and a slider switch making it far easier, more robust, and intuitive to use. While Lumecube touts a "color" LCD screen, this adds absolutely zero value. The single dial control on the Lumecube is rather counterintuitive, and after using the IVISII first, felt like a large step backward. Huge ding for hardware that's hamstrung while commanding 3x the cost.AppWhile IVISII doesn't have an app, this is still a win. Lumecube's app looks as if it was completed in a single weekend by an engineering student working for a case of Mountain Dew.The whole UX is atrocious, difficult to control, and rife with spelling errors. Trying to select a color is virtually impossible due to wildly poor execution. This amounts to an app that's basically useless. Don't take my word for it—go check out its 1.5 star rating.Random Functionality Nobody Asked ForBoth panels sport basically the same random set of gimmicky light effects. They're basically the light version of those cheesy tune presets on an old Casio keyboard. Fun to turn on once. Even more fun to turn off forever.Final verdictThe cheesy effects pull back the curtain on Lumecube to reveal that it's basically the same LED panel as other competitors, with a broken app that asks 3x the money of better constructed clones.Hats off to the Lumecube guy, who's likely raking it in with this hustle. But with the IVISII beating the Lumecube at every turn, there's literally zero reason to justify spending 3 times the cost on an inferior product.
Very powerful light and easy to use. Bought in 2022, only lasted me 2 years. Light is completely dead and won't power on anymore.
While I don’t regret the purchase, it just makes me think of how I felt at the time, purchasing such an expensive item for a friend who would then turn out to be someone who I would want nothing to do with. However, as for the item itself, worked like a dream and was delivered quickly and in great condition.
The Lume Cube Panel Pro is as advertised. It is pricy, but delivers in the highest level. The app is a great way to control the lights. One ifctge best aspects is the snap on light diffuser. It is very minimal compared to silicon ones that covers the whole light. It can snap on and off with the panel attached.
Love this with my Lime cube. All Small & portable, All settings work from iPhone. Not had real chance of using it yet but know ill like it. All I can say is "Get One ??".
these are helpful when shooting on location and needing additional light. I've used them to help the lighting out a bit at music performances and sessions.
Been using this Lume Cube Pro for a month, which is the bigger light of the 3 they offer, it does the job but for the size, brightness and price... meh, idk. I wish I would have gone a different route. It IS well made and there is nothing wrong with it, I do like it a lot. But for $150 it should be brighter, lot brighter.Smallrig just released a new light equivalent in specs as this Lume Cube Pro, but it also acts as a powerbank, which is a nice feature... I wish it had been released before I purchased this one, I would have gotten 2 for the money I paid for this.
