I ordered this WD purple color 4TB due to its endurance of long recording of data and use it as a backup. It packed well and it works so far so good.

I recently purchased ten Western Digital 12TB WD Purple Pro surveillance drives for an extensive security project. Out of the box, I did encounter an unexpected issue: two of the drives were dead on arrival. However, I promptly reached out to customer support and received replacements without hassle.Once installed, the drives performed flawlessly. The WD Purple Pro series is specifically engineered for surveillance environments, and it shows—these drives run quietly and efficiently, handling constant writing and heavy workloads with ease. Recording high-definition video streams from multiple cameras has been seamless, and the storage capacity is ample for long-term retention. While initial failures were disappointing, the quick and professional replacement process reassured me of Western Digital’s commitment to customer service. The performance, reliability, and peace of mind these drives provide far outweigh the minor setback at the start.

I bought this beast to drop into my Amcrest NVR system because apparently, my house needed the same level of surveillance as Fort Knox. Spoiler alert: it works perfectly — and now my house is basically the Truman Show, but with better resolution. Why I Love This Drive:12 Terabytes of "You Saw Nothing, Officer"Seriously, it holds weeks of 4K footage from multiple cameras, including the one pointed at my driveway that’s mostly squirrels doing parkour.Purpose-Built for ParanoiaDesigned for 24/7/365 surveillance workloads. No naps. No coffee breaks. Just pure, tireless storage of every Amazon delivery and mysterious leaf blower incident.Plug-and-Paranoia InstallationInstalled in my Amcrest NVR like it was born there. No firmware drama, no compatibility tantrums. Just silence... and a blinking light of judgment.Cooler Than Your ExRuns quiet, stays cool, and doesn’t randomly ghost you like a desktop hard drive shoved into a job it wasn’t hired for.512MB Cache = Smooth PlaybackRewinding suspicious backyard activity in crisp HD has never been this satisfying. Even if it was just a raccoon again. Final Thoughts:If you're serious about home security (or just want to capture footage of your neighbor stealing your trash cans), this is the drive. It’s like a security guard that never blinks and never asks for a raise.Buy it. Install it. Sleep easy — unless you're worried what it might've caught you doing

This is the second faulty bed (WD Purple HDD, 8tb) I have received. I've used Western Digital for years and never had this kind of experience. The first one appeared to be new in original Western Digital packaging. It failed to spin up and would not be.recognized by my system (Reolink RLN36 NVR). It was returned and I reordered the same part number again. For test purposes I repurposed a used Western Digital Black 1tb drive to verify that the system was not faulty. It performs as expected, so I know my system is not the problem. The second drive was not shipped in any kind of factory original packaging. A bubble wrap bag was the only protection, other than the anti static bag immediately around the drive.Upon power up this drive spins up and the heads repeatedly go through a cycle that is far louder than normal - the type of noise a drive makes when failure is imminent - and it never gets recognized by the system. As of this writing my return of the first drive has not been processed and now the second one does not work. I'm out almost $400 of my money and still can't use my system.I plant to buy from a distributor that will send me a properly packaged drive, handled in the correct way before it reaches me. Apparently Amazon and this vendor are not up to that task.

I purchased this WD Purple drive (4TB) for a security camera DVR in which the existing hard drive appeared to have crapped out for no specific reason. Despite the fact the cameras were still transmitting the various locations to the DVR, nothing had been recorded for quite some time. In addition the DVR gave of this plaintiff squeal which was enough to drive anyone mad..... another good reason for turning it off.As soon as I installed the new hard drive, everything functioned as it should. The pictures continued to flow through from the cameras and the recording side of the equipment started with no problem. The WD hard drive will, one hopes, provide the necessary back up and recording service for some time to come.

Have not had running long. Will update if things change, but so far I can see the speed improvements with video playback, event playback and AI functions from previous drive in my NVR. The drive is louder than my previous drive but not an issue for me. I do wish this drive would be available in a 16TB option as my NVR allows up to 16TB but had to go with the 14TB as the largest available option.
