I received the slam ball yesterday and demonstrated a “slam” for my husband. I knew immediately that I would be returning the ball because the surface texture is very rough and irritated my hands. This may not be a problem for some but for me it was a no go. Otherwise, the slam itself was great!
Very nice and durable
loving the medicine ball! It's awesome, I’ve found it easy to handle, especially if you're doing exercises that involve a lot of movement. The material is perfect for you - soft enough to not be harsh on your joints, but still durable enough to withstand all the action.
Great weighted ball! The material is durable! I throw this ball in and down my turf and no issues. Good find, good value.
Excellent quality slam ball.Texture of the ball give good grip.Gets the job done.Fairly priced.
It's a ball. It has good grip.It does have sand inside it (its a slam ball - duh), so weight does shift around when you lift it. Otherwise exactly as I had hoped for.
This one didn't do it for me for a few reasons. I'll start with the cons that led to me returning this.1. Poor zero rebound behavior- The ball is larger in diameter and there is not enough sand to fill this space so the weight shifts randomly to another side of the ball. Thus, when I would throw it, the ball would land and roll away from me in a random direction, sometimes, up to a foot away. This doesn't sound bad, but when you are constantly having to chase it, this quickly becomes frustrating to do consistent slams efficiently as I would be having to reach further ahead, to the side, etc to grab it again. When I would try to do overhead exercises, passing the ball back and forth such as during planks, the weight shifts made the ball clumsy to handle. The sand didn't roll smoothly with the ball, it felt as if the sand would shift all at once and send the ball forward out of my control. Instead of a smooth sand, it felt like inside the ball perhaps the sand is fine and clumps together.2. Inflation- The ball arrived fairly deflated and the issues I noted above were still present. It was difficult to grab the ball when it is too deflated, but, that is the only way to decrease the internal volume of the ball and help offset the sand having too much room to move. I aired it up a bit to try it and the rolling away issue became worse, obviously. The air contributed to more bouncing and sporadic movements and the weight shifting issue got worse.Pros1. Good material- I will say, the shell material felt fine and seems sturdy and thick. I don't suspect it would rupture easily. The cross hatch grip pattern didn't particularly help me over another style of grip, but it didn't hurt either. The ball did arrive with a bit of a "greasy" feel from manufacturing which made it slippery, but a quick wipe off with some rubbing alcohol helped remedy this and then the grip was good.2. Adjustability- While I noted the airing up issue above, it was specifically pointing at the lack of zero bounce I noted and rolling away issue. The valve itself and adjustability is fine and I appreciate that this is offered. It gives the user a variety of diameter changes, grip changes and if you don't mind this aspect, variability when it hits the ground. If this had a true zero bounce function with better sand fill, I would appreciate the ability to air this up more.3. Price- The price here is excellent. At the time of my purchase it was on sale for $18 bucks. You can't beat that. They are pricing competitively here and for the overall material quality and general function, the money is spot on. If you are needing something affordable and don't care about my problems noted above, this ball will absolutely be a winner for you without breaking the bank.Overall, this one missed the mark for me. I do not think this is a bad product itself, it just isn't right for me. I have discovered I prefer a smaller diameter ball (this one is 10", my new one is 9" and is much better for myself and offers a great hand feel and behavior regardless of air pressure inside). My current ball I replaced this with has a true zero bounce behavior. It hits the ground and stops where it lands, Everytime. Whether I air it up or down, when it hits the ground, it STOPS dead and when I move it about, the sand rolls seamlessly inside without any weight shifting oddity or sporadic behavior. I think with some re-tooling of this design, a smaller diameter ball and perhaps, better sand inside, it would be a home run product.
