First end this was so easy to assemble that I didn't need instructions (I'm a starting metal detector user) despite this the instructions to do so are well written and not over detailed.Even with a simple construction it's very sturdy in feel, I feel like I could accidently drop this several times and it would still work like it was new out of the box.The detection doesn't seem to hold very deep (maybe about 2ft max I am also unsure if that's normal or not) but this is also a cheaper scanner $100 at the time of this review. All in all I've had a good time using this and learning with it, haven't found any big hauls just mostly nails, rusted things and a few coins. I would highly suggest this for first time users as the even cheaper ones as I have found out will detect themselves somehow which means false readings.
Easy to put together. Took about 10 minutes to get everything connected and adjusted and it was very intuitive. It comes with a 9v battery, and it is not rechargeable. The instructions are very illustrated and simple although there are lots of details to know, mainly about the settings for what kind of metal you're looking for. There are only icons displayed on the machine so keep the instructions to know which metal the icons correspond to.The calibration is easy, basically just point it at something you know isn't metal, like the sky, as you press the button. Then you're ready to start swinging (this is mainly a motion metal detector except for one of the settings). Great forearm strap that makes it easier to hold for extended periods of time.I haven't found any hidden treasure yet, but it definitely detects metal every time I put it up to known metal, so it works great. It makes different beeps for different metals. The accessories are pretty great: wired headphones, a very sturdy digger with measuring device (it will tell you how deep in the ground it is detecting the metal and you can measure exactly) and protective carrying case (but you do need to deconstruct it slightly to fit it in). No sifter or sieve.Besides a sifter, it's everything you need to immediately start detecting at a pretty high level. I'd be thrilled to get or give this.
Like many hobbies, metal detecting tools/accessories can have a very wide price range based on the quality of the product. I think this metal detector is a great option for someone looking to get into metal detecting without committing to super expensive gear. From my experience so far, I think this detector will be good for a while before the urge to upgrade arises.I was a little skeptical at first because the screen looked cheap and not the best quality. However, it functions perfectly fine, and if that is one of the tradeoffs for a more inexpensive detector, I am fine with it. The instructions are straightforward and even though all the buttons and modes seem overwhelming at first, the instructions make it easy to understand. I did a few test runs with some objects from around the house and burying them at various depths and it did a great job at finding them. The metal detector also is fairly comfortable to hold and walk around with without becoming heavy.Overall, if you are looking for an entry level detector, I think this is a great option to see if the hobby is right for you. It is a good value and will hopefully pay for itself with finding some buried treasures!
Overall this is a great metal detector especially for beginners or as a quick take a long for casual detecting. The price is a good entry point and it is fairly light weight and intuitive for beginners. I knocked off a star because there were a good number of typos and misprints in the directions and need to be edited better. Aside from that I am overall happy with how easy it was to set up and the quality of its detecting.
Been wanting to get into metal detecting for a while and picked this one as my starter unit. Assembly was super simple right out of the box. I took it to a local park and within the first half hour found a few coins and a rusty bottle cap, so I guess it works! The screen is bright enough to see in sunlight and the armrest makes it comfortable to swing for a long time. It gives different tones for metals once you get used to it. The waterproof coil is the reason I removed a star from my review. IMO its waterproof in the sense that it will not get damaged if you put the coil in water but I found that when using at the beach (I didn't try water detecting at the park lake due to bird doo) the salt water seems to have an impact on its ability to detect. It went a little wonky (maybe just my unit?) so I took it out, dried it off, and it went right back to detecting as before. The waterproofing is really nice in the sense that you don't have to fear the water but I don't think you are going to be able to detect in a few inches of water without issues. Maybe its just salt water? Not sure. The build quality is solid but still light enough for my teenage son to use too. Battery life lasted all afternoon. The included shovel and bag were a nice touch. It’s not a pro model, but for hobbyists it’s perfect. Fun to use, and now I’m hooked on seeing what’s under the dirt. At the beach you are going get a lot of hits, some junk and maybe if you are lucky some finds. Kids love it and it is truly a great tool for "treasure hunting" with the family for fun.
