  • Over 99% of mobile apps are optimized for LCD/OLED screens with: High refresh rate expectations; Color-rich interfaces; Animation-heavy designs; These design choices conflict with E Ink's natural strengths in static content display.Energy Efficiency Trade-off‌: E Ink relies on electrophoretic particles that physically move to form images, resulting in slower refresh rates, makes it inherently unsuitable for conventional app interfaces designed for always-powered displays. If the buyers are not satisfied, they can apply for return or exchange, but it cannot be regarded as a malfunction.

Excellent build quality. The tablet has a much better response time and performance as compared to previous monochrome BOOX tablets I have owned. Colours are limited to 4096 values, so they are not as saturated as I would like and the dynamic range of the colours is limited.

First ImpressionsThe BOOX Tab X C comes across as a serious, professional-grade ePaper device right out of the box. With its 13.3-inch display, it’s notably larger than most E Ink tablets, making it ideal for reading PDFs, technical documents, or note-taking on a full-sized page. At nearly £750, the expectations are understandably high. The device feels solid, slim, and well-built, leaning toward a premium aesthetic.Display & Colour PerformanceThe screen is the highlight — and also the limitation. The large E Ink Carta with colour filter does improve readability compared to smaller devices, and the refresh rate is slightly better than previous generations. Page turns and navigation feel more responsive, though it still lacks the snappiness of an LCD or OLED tablet.Colours are, however, muted. Unlike the bright, vibrant displays of standard tablets, the Tab X C’s palette looks washed out. Text in black-and-white is crisp and clear, but colours feel dull and subdued. For annotating documents, sketching, or viewing charts, it’s acceptable — but anyone hoping for vivid colour reproduction may find it underwhelming.Speed & PerformanceWith 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the hardware is capable on paper. The Android-based operating system supports apps and multitasking, but the E Ink technology naturally holds it back. The refresh improvements are noticeable — smoother than older BOOX models — yet still behind mainstream tablets. Opening apps, scrolling, and web browsing work but require patience. As a productivity device for focused reading and writing, it functions well. As a general-purpose tablet, it lags.Note-Taking & Writing ExperienceThis is where the Tab X C shines. Using the stylus, handwriting feels natural and precise. The matte screen texture provides just enough resistance to mimic pen on paper. The note-taking app is robust, offering layers, templates, and cloud syncing. For students, researchers, or professionals dealing with annotated PDFs or handwritten notes, it’s one of the best experiences on an E Ink device. The large display makes full-page writing and reviewing far more comfortable than on smaller models.Features & LimitationsDespite its high price, the Tab X C feels somewhat sparse in extras:It supports Android apps, but performance limits their practicality.Audio and multimedia options are minimal; this is not meant for streaming.Colour accuracy isn’t strong enough for artists or designers who need precision. The device is best suited for readers, note-takers, and those who want distraction-free productivity.Where it excels is in its core function as a notepad and large-format eReader. In that respect, it surpasses many rivals thanks to its big display and strong handwriting tools.Battery LifeBattery life is one of the perks of E Ink technology. The Tab X C can last days or even weeks on light use, depending on brightness and refresh settings. It’s designed for longevity between charges, making it well-suited for work or travel.Value for MoneyAt £749.99, this device sits firmly in the premium bracket. The large display and excellent writing experience justify part of the cost, but the muted colours, modest feature set, and slower performance compared to standard tablets make it a tough sell for anyone outside of its niche audience. For those who specifically want a large, distraction-free digital notebook, it offers value. For general tablet users, there are far more versatile and faster alternatives at a similar price.Pros & ConsPros:Large 13.3" ePaper display — great for documents and note-taking.Improved refresh rate over older models.Crisp text, excellent for extended reading.Superb handwriting and annotation experience.Long battery life.Cons:Muted, dull colours compared to LCD/OLED.Still feels sluggish for multitasking or browsing.Limited features for such a high price. Not suitable for vibrant media consumption.Final VerdictThe BOOX Tab X C is a specialised device that excels in one area: being a digital notepad and large-format eReader. It’s not designed to replace a standard tablet, and it falls short if judged by speed, colour quality, or multimedia capability. However, for academics, professionals, or dedicated note-takers who value eye comfort, full-page writing, and distraction-free reading, it’s among the best E Ink tablets available.Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)Excellent as a notepad and reader, but colours are dull, speed is limited, and at this price point, the lack of versatility is hard to overlook.

For someone who has access to large number of books via the public library, and kindle, and who loves to read alot. The screensize is big and hence bookreading experience is great. The color makes it easy to read those books that have graphs and charts. Multitasking especially reading and taking notes side by side is very handy. Battery life is also good, but definitely need to charge once every couple days if you are a heavy user. Android operating system makes you extend the usage to other apps, such as: word, excel, powerpoints, libby, news apps, reddit, everything that you get in an android ecosystem. Dont expect it to be the ipad replacement especially for color accuracy but for the most part, it will reduce your dependence in eye-straining devices for simple tasks such as reading and writing.

This is a great device if you are looking to consume a variety of digital entertainment, particularly if you read both novels and comics/manga.The huge 13 inch screen feels very nice with the smooth semi-matte finish, it also looks great with a high DPI, the kaleido 3 color e-ink is also a huge improvement over past versions and the colors look pretty good (albiet still nowhere near good LCD or OLED, but hey your eyes won't hurt looking at it). My only gripe is the backlight feels pretty uneven and gives everything a staticy look, I personally recommend turning it off and using an external light source (as you probably should with most e-readers).Arguably the biggest selling point of this device is simply the Android OS, this allows you the freedom of getting your books/content from anywhere (Kindle, Kobo, Apps, etc). While Boox doesn't seem to have a super impressive OS support promise, at least it is a fairly recent revision with maybe 1-2 updates post purchase, so I imagine the tablet should go about 5-8 years before any major apps become unusable due to out of date OS. The only problem buyers may encounter getting such a large device is that many Android app makers are too lazy to make proper tablet oriented UI layouts, resulting in tiny icons or other navigation issues, particularly with the slow refresh rate of the screen. However, Boox does provide software settings which can force apps to display larger and adjust the refresh rate per app, so many of these problems can be worked around. The overall device feel is also quite nice, the tablet is shockingly thin to the point where I'm concerned I could accidently snap it in half. It's also impressively light making it easy to hold up, but I personally recommend a case to protect it which will negate some of this lightness.Battery life has been good overall, with me easily getting 1-2 weeks on it, mostly reading text with the backlight off and occasionally turning the light on and reading manga. The tablet also comes with a stylus which can magnetically attach to the opposite side of the big bezel, but I don't use it at all so I can't comment on it's performance.Overall, I love the device a lot and it's helped me get back into reading regularly. However, price will be a likely issue as you could buy probably all of the other top e-readers on Amazon for the cost of this one. If you aren't concerned on the price, I personally do recommend it.

great idea poorly executed, i was so hopeful that this would help me with work and uni notes but the menus are so poorly designed it takes a while to realise how bad the rest of the product is, everything is much slower than the kindle scribe, it crashes frequently, occasionally after saving hand written notes just disappear - i'm looking at a page of notes and a palm size patch is just blank, the sentences continue around the missing patch, the file system is an absolute pain to move things around in and each view shows different layers with no access to the others. its rubbish for note taking because of the disappearing and crashing, its rubbish for reading because of the menus being nonsensical, its about a 4 step process to go from moving position to making a note on a pdf, its rubbish for trying to do both in split screen because you have all the problems from before and an additional set of menus lagging and random file generation. the battery lasts a while but thats probably because the thing is basically unusable. i'd return it if I could and just stick with any other tablet, e ink device or laptop because at least they would do something well -this doesntgo buy anything else this is just a waste of money

I have an older Boox tablet that I use for my sheet music. I absolutely loved it and was excited to get this for the color aspect. I like to highlight certain spots in my music and while the colors are muted, it's enough for me for it to. I like that I can use this for indoor or outdoor concerts and be able to see my music in direct sunlight or in a darker auditorium. Not as much ghosting as my older Boox which is nice, but the battery definitely doesn't last as long like on my older Boox.

I wish amazon would permit sufficient words to describe why I am returning this tablet, in short, I suggest nobody should purchase this tablet. So now I will summarize.1. Screen is entirely too dark.2.The battery drains swiftly even with the recommended lighting settings.3. The writing experience is unacceptable. It is like skating on glass.4. The handwriting to text is painful to use the interface / keyboard and the commands to get it to work are clumsy and extremely time consuming to even do basic formatting, no thank you. The entire interface needs an overhaul other tablets do this much better Supernotes Manta is a good example for one.I know this brand having worked with it since 2002 the interface has not improved and ghosting is worse.5. The screen is not what I would even come close to calling good resolution.I just sold my 2002 BOOX ultra and 2003 BOOX Ultra C on ebay.I put up with them both, I do not see myself returning to this brand during this generation but I am trying with 1 last attempt with the Monochrome 13 inch if it dissapoints it will take major overhauls with this companies products to get me back. There has been little to no innovation and the updates make ghosting and other issues worse not better. In closing, my recommendation is save your money. Do not buy this one.
