This is a decent-enough rod/reel kit to keep in your vehicle or to have on hand for a hike, but there are more durable and tested options available. That said, the whole kit is only $29.99 as of when I'm writing this review, and that's a pretty decent price considering it also comes with some bait, some tools, and a bag. Though the bag is barely worth noting as it is of the cheapest quality for this type of bag and it won't last long if it gets wet or even if it gets a lot of sun through the window of your vehicle. But the pliers and lip holder are decent enough. Again, this isn't a kit that's designed to be any avid fisherman's go-to option. This is a relatively low cost kit that allows you to pull over on a drive and drop in a line if you happen across some enticing looking pond, or to use your lunch break for a few casts if you happen to work next to a pond or something similar. The casing action is smooth enough and I haven't encountered any of the looseness in the reel attachment that others have noted in their reviews, so it may be that I'm lucky or it may be that I haven't used it enough yet to encounter that. I'll certainly try to remember to come back and update this if I do encounter that issue at a later date.Overall, this is a fine product for the price and it delivers on what it says it will in the listing, so that's what I'm giving it 4-stars. There are higher quality options available, and for not a lot more money. But if this is right in your target price-range, then I can at least say that it has worked fine for me thus far (but I also have a better hard-case storage option for it and have already thrown away the original bag).
This is my first time shopping for a fishing pole, so I’m not coming from experience with fishing. I got it for my 7 year old son who has recently become interested in fishing. So, my impressions are as a value centered consumer. I think this set is priced extremely well, and though it’s likely a beginner’s pole and reel, it is a very nice quality that exceeded my expectations. The set comes in a nicely zippered soft carrying case and seems to come with everything one would need to get started with extra room for more. There are no instructions included, which is a downside to a newbie, but one could get the pole together logically, or with the help of an experienced fisherman. The reel fits into the indented space on the pole, once you turn the red clamp counter clockwise - it moves upward exposing the full space for the reel. Then turn clockwise and the part comes back down, tightening over the reel to hold it in place. The reel spins with a very smooth action, and seems very durable. As the top of the pole is fragile, it telescopes in and out of the comfort grip handle and is covered by a plastic safety cover, that I imagine you want to keep for storage when not in use. I have no idea how to string the thing, but it comes with fishing string, something to cut the string, and another tool I’m not sure how to use. We’ll be using YouTube tutorials, I’m sure. The box of lures contains very real, very sharp hooks - handle with care. I really am quite please with the quality and all that is included for this very reasonable price. I’m sure these things get quite expensive the more experience and skill one builds, but this one will work for us for quite a while.
Went on a trip up north, bought this so I could go trout fishing. It casts good and the fishing reel is very good for the price.
My son loved this, we gave it to him as a birthday gift. it is made really well and the packaging is pretty thick.
I hadn't been fishing in years, so when my father-in-law suddenly wanted me to go, I needed a setup quickly and without a huge investment. I decided to order this simple, all-in-one combo, and I'm really glad I did.The best part was the immediate usability. The assembly was essentially done when it arrived and I just had to get the line set up. The only real adjustment I made was changing the test poundage of the included line to something heavier, as the local fish we were catching required a bit more strength. My father-in-law, who is a seasoned fisherman, was actually the one who was most impressed. He kept commenting on how convenient and compact the entire package was, especially how easily it breaks down and fits into the carrying case. He liked it so much that he's already planning to buy one himself to use as a backup or a secondary casting line. For someone who needed a reliable, portable solution to get through the day, this kit performed beautifully. Everything needed, right down to the fishing pliers and lip gripper, was included in a neat little setup.
