Works decent but the screen is super small and hard to read. I had a Brother printer before that was over 10 years old and it had a color touchscreen on it. And it was a cartridge cheaper type printer. I don’t understand why this is more expensive ink jet type printer has a much worse screen. Also, for the amount of money I paid for this I was just expecting more. It works now as expected though and hopefully it will give us a good print quality for years. But the three star rating is mainly for the small screen and overall cheap fuel you get for the amount of money.

For $200 cheaper than the MFC-T780DW, you will find the same ink cost to page ratio in this 580 model. If you don't have a need for an auto document feeder and aren't affected by the lower print speed for coloured pages (9 pages per minute for the MFC-T580DW compared to 15.5 for the MFC-T780DW), this more basic version of the printer may be a good option for you. Genuine black ink for this printer costs $25CAD (the price I found today) and is rated for 7500 pages. My usual inkjet printer costs me $35CAD for genuine black ink and is rated for 300 pages. The actual yield you're going to get with any ink will depend on what you're printing and how often. The maximum printing resolution is 1200 x 6000 dpi and is dependent on print and paper quality. This printer is straightforward to set up, and I'm satisfied with the print quality! Overall, this is a great option for home use.

I had just purchased an epson a couple of months ago and was so disappointed. I purchased this and it’s like night and day difference. Very easy instructions, very easy to fill the ink tanks. Very lightweight and more compact and the epson i had. I’m very happy I went back to Brother.

This is how a printer should be. A bit more of an upfront cost for a product that just works, not trying to milk customers for ink cartridges after a few pages of printing with a super cheap printer. While I am skeptical of getting three years of printing out of these inkjet bottles, if I get anything over a year of consistent printing I’ll be happy.Setup is a bit tedious using the screen but once it’s done, it’s done. You can tie it to an app as well for some wireless printing which I decided to set up afterwards. Trying to print or change options with this tiny screen is probably the biggest pain point for this printer. If you stay wireless, you avoid a lot of this.Printing is fast enough, but slows down on photo prints for quality which I’m okay with. The color is nice and vibrant. The only other thing to note is that it can’t scan double sided documents (only one side at a time). This isn’t a huge deal for how I use printers but may be for you. Overall this is a solid printer that comes with a load of ink to keep you printing for quite a while.

Worst printer I've ever used. I had high hopes especially at that price. This is built cheaper than any $50 printer I've ever had. Literally trays and pieces just falling off. Took me an hour and a half to connect to my Wi-Fi in what should have taken 30 seconds. My girlfriend could not even connect her phone to this printer. It printed for me one time and then never again because of connection issues and poor software. Stay away from this printer at all costs.

Brother makes a wide range of printers and multi function centers, like this MFC-T580DW. This one is very low profile on a desk and is very basic in design. It comes with a detachable power cable and a USB printer port - no LAN connection. Setting it up was fairly straight forward, however the paper tray I did have difficulty spreading out the green guides for the paper width. Examining the back side, the cog teeth were very fine and hard to move, but did get it spread out for letter sized paper. The ink was straight forward to pour into the tanks and there is a little click sound when you connect the bottle to the fill port so you know you are connected properly and won't leak. Once filled the MFC does a calibration check and its good to go.The power cable and the USB cable do stick out of the left side of the printer and the power cable seems a bit flimsy in the port, but otherwise it connected. Once powered up, setting up the the printer on WiFi was straightforward, as was the USB connection for a computer. Testing with Windows Server 2019, as well as Windows 10, 11, and IOS on a phone, there were no issues, and it printed at an ok speed for both greyscale, as well as color printing - with fairly minimal noise. Scanning depending on ppi did take a bit of time, but the quality is as good as some more expensive models, and the copy function was also comparable to others, with no artifacts or clarity issues. For an entry level MFC this one is pretty good, and again has a very small desk profile which is great when you don't have a lot of space.

This Brother INKvestment Tank printer is brand new tech for Brother. The previous gen INKVestment wasn't a good start going into Ink Tanks. This time, they started over, it's all new, and they nailed it.The printer:You get a 150-sheet tray that loads cleanly. No weird jams or alignment issues during testing.I ran the setup through the Brother Mobile Connect app. Took under 10 minutes, and the wireless connection just works. That is not as common as you may think in the printer world. The refill bottles are very clean and easy to use. No drips, no mess, and the color-coded slots make it hard to screw up.It prints black text fast enough for basic docs. Colour prints look bright. Photos are OK, what you would expect for a CMY 3 color + black printer. The color functionality is totally fine for school or casual use.You can scan and copy from the top flatbed type scanner. Hinges feel decent, and the lid doesn't flop around.I noticed the LCD screen is bare bones. One-line display, no frills, but it gets the job done if you're not menu-hopping.Duplex printing worked fine. Slows down a bit on colour double-sided, but it didn't choke or misfeed. The ink levels barely moved after 1/2 a ream of paper. I would trust the 3-year claim for light use.Get this. The ink refill bottles cost 15 dollars each for another 3 years (!)It costs even less if you get a full CMY color or CMY+BK full kit.R U Kidding?? Wow, that's cheap, how crazy is that.Brother changed a lot of things on this printer. It doesn't spew (waste) ink every day to keep the nozzles clear. They just take better care of the nozzles when parked I guess. It must have been quite a redesign to make an inkjet able to sustain itself for a 3-year window on the first set of ink.You can connect via USB or Wi-Fi. I stuck with straight wireless and anybody in the house has no issues printing to it.It weighs about 15 pounds, not too bulky, not a huge footprint. This is the best series inkjets Brother has made to date, cheapest to run, and best to own.The only improvement I would make on this model would be... nothing. However, it's not much more to simply step up to the next model for double color printing speed, or an auto document feeder.

I’ve gone through my fair share of printers over the years, and this Brother INKvestment Tank 580 is by far the best one yet. Setup was surprisingly easy — it connected to my Wi-Fi in minutes, and the instructions were clear and straightforward (a rare thing with printers!).The print quality is excellent for both text and color documents. Photos come out crisp with vibrant colors, and text looks professional — perfect for home office use, school projects, or light business printing. The real winner, though, is the ink system. Brother includes up to three years’ worth of ink right in the box, and the refillable tanks make it incredibly cost-effective. No more running out of ink halfway through a print job or spending a fortune on cartridges.I also love how quiet and compact it is compared to older models. Scanning and copying work smoothly, and the automatic document feeder saves a ton of time when dealing with multi-page documents. The Brother Mobile Connect app is a nice touch too — I can print directly from my phone or tablet without hassle.Between the 3-year limited warranty and the included ink supply, this printer really feels like a smart long-term investment. If you’re tired of unreliable printers that constantly need refills, this one’s a game-changer.✅ Pros:Easy wireless setupGreat print quality for documents and photosHuge ink savingsQuiet, reliable, and compact3-year warranty and ink included❌ Cons:Doesn’t have two-sided scanning (only single-pass), but not a dealbreakerOverall, this is the best home printer I’ve owned — efficient, economical, and stress-free.

It took me about 3 hours overall to completely get this printer up and running, but when it was working properly, I’m happy with it.This works through my home WiFi, works with the app on my tablet, works with the Brother App/program for Windows 11 on my home PC, and it does work with AirPrint for my iOS devices. The instructions were very inadequate. It suggested I download the app and set it up that way. It is supposed to allow set up through the minimal LCD screen. The LCD screen is not backlit and hard to read in ambient light. I could find my home network on the LCD screen, and it would take my network password and connect, but repeatedly loses the connection and asks me to set up again. Eventually I had to download and use the app to set up on my tablet. The app immediately asked me for personal information and to create an account. It took me a few minutes to realize I could bypass that and eventually I got the printer set up on my tablet device. It made me create a very complex password to re-use this app this at home; not sure why this had to be so complex for a home printer for home use. Then it would not work on my PC. I had to download installation software, the drivers, and proprietary software to make it all work. It took the software between 30 and 60 minutes to run and install for my Windows 11 PC, after it was downloaded. This software was also not very intuitive. I bypassed the request for personal information again. It includes a link to the store to buy supplies, but no ink for refill is available there yet. Ink is available here on Amazon though, search for D180 ink.The ink comes in bottles and the ink tanks need to be manually filled. The first bottle leaked a little until I got the knack of filling the rest of the tanks. The ink is very permanent and doesn’t wash completely clean from my hands with soap and water or other solvents.Opening the paper tray the first time was a challenge. It seemed stuck and I was afraid I might break it. There is a white tab/catch on the bottom of the printer that apparently locks the tray in place and has to be rotated to unlock the tray. When I figured this out, the tray would open and close easily.Once it was working, it functions well. The printer is slow, but par for an inkjet. The colors are sharp. The scanner will scan up to 1200 dpi on my PC. The copier scans then prints. I am happy with all functions.

There have been no reviews for this product yet.
