Really great combo for fly fishing. Has nice feel when casting or retrieving. Light weight and easy to carry.Smooth casting and nice looking.
I own 8'6'' #5. As a new fisherman I tried several very affordable fly rods. They all were a waste of money and made my learning of fly fishing quite challenging and frustrating until I have started using REDINGTON Crosswater Combo Fly Rod. It should be your first fly rod to start learning the art of fly fishing. Don't waste your time and money for very affordable fly rods (~80-100 Euro/USD). Probably only professionals and fly fishing instructors can cast reasonably with these affordable rods. Please learn from my experience, enjoy learning fly fishing and have fun.
This fly fishing combo is my first experience in the realm of fly fishing. I personally think this combo is an excellent starter kit, and it will still be a good fit for intermediate fisherman on a budget.I ordered size 5, which is strong enough for some 3-5lbs smallmouth bass, but light enough for some decent action with small panfish. The reel is smooth. Nice addicting clicking action when reeling or giving yourself some loose line. The rod action is ultralight. Easy to feel even the slightest bite.Smooth casting. The line glides smoothy within the guides without any bumps. The main highlight of this combo is the style. Most fly rods/reels tends to be boring colors. This combo looks cool without compromising on the traditional fly rod feeling.Like other reviews pointed out, yes the reel is made of plastic. But this makes is way easier to maintain. Relatively maintenance free. Can be soaked in water without issues. Zero rusting. The case is solid and robust quality. But it doesn't have an elbow strap, only a hand grip.

I've been fishing all my life, but I'm new to fly fishing. This setup is a great value for a casual newcomer to fly fishing. The case it comes with is handy, the rod is decent enough, and it comes pre-spooled with everything you need besides flies. That being said, you should be aware the fly line included is Rio Mainstream, which is actually one weight heavier than rated. So on my 5wt setup the 5wt Rio Mainstream line is actually 160g which is normally classified as 6wt. This means your rig is "overlined", but that does actually help beginners cast more easily and is not necessarily a bad thing--just something to be aware of as a buyer. The only downside to mention is the plastic Crosswater reel. It will get the job done, but it's not really much of a treat to use. Being plastic it can take some scuffs, but it literally fell apart on me while I was at my local casting ponds. Somehow the drag came apart and the spool fell off and rolled away. I was able to put it all back together, but it did not inspire confidence. Full disclosure, after a couple weeks with this combo I went and upgraded to the Redington Vice rod and an Orvis Battenkill reel, and now this Crosswater combo is my backup/loaner. If you aren't sure if you'll become a lifelong fly fisher, this Crosswater combo is an affordable way to get your feet wet. However, if you're fairly certain you're into the sport you may want to spend a little more and go with the Vice combo.
Best rod for me
Even if you have a brand you like, you’ll be happy about this rod and case. The case alone is exciting considering how packable it is, how you can see into the compartment through the solid feeling and not cheap plastic. For a rod on a budget the case alone is worth the cost! Then you pull the rod out, put it together and feel it’s balance.. everything there but the fly. They matched all the pieces together very well. If you’re a starter this is perfect - learning with good equipment makes a difference, learning on super expensive super elite equipment makes you nervous- this is “oh no I didn’t realize how long these are and jammed the tip into the cement hope it’s not broke but if it is I’m not out a ton of money economic. If you’re an expert this is perfect because it’s handy to always have a spare GOOD fly rod set up to lend if you get a partner by accident or if something happens and you’re finding yourself without your best rod (maybe a wolf steals it straight from camp one night??) The line is good quality also. I felt that feeling of “where’s some water” while holding it. It casts well and feeds out smooth.
Great rod combo for the money. Good company that honors the warranty.
I purchased this combo in the 8 weight to fish locally for largemouth bass. Compared to the 5 weight combo I bought at a local box store, I’m very impressed! The Case:A royal blue canvas-like material surrounds The hard case. It looks handsome and feels very sturdy. I have no concerns about rod protection. The interior is sectioned off into four sleeves for each piece of the rod. The sleeves may not make a huge difference, but it seems like a thoughtful and higher end detail. The pieces don’t rattle around inside much when stored. The rod:The rod is great! A nice blue finish, and the pieces fit into each ferrule securely. There are small yellow dots at each point where the pieces connect which aid in putting the rod together without having to eyeball the line eyes with each other and the reel. The rod has a medium-fast action, so it feels slightly less flexible than my other rod which is a medium action. This slight increase in stiffness feels better to me; it feels more reactive to my arm motion than my other rod. My 8 weight has a slightly extended butt section covered in cork to help play large fish, too.The reel:Yep, the reel is essentially plastic. It feels heavy enough for plastic where I don’t feel worried about it breaking, but if it dropped too hard on some rocks, who knows? It might get damaged. If properly handled I don’t think there will be any issues. The drag is smooth, and it seats into the rod securely.I’m tempted to buy a 5 weight Clearwater combo from Redington to use instead of my other rod, I like it that much!
Good quality product for the price
This Fly rod feels amazing. The weight is good, the colour makes it look sexy.
Been opened and used tons of times and it's holding up great!
Has held up great and gets used a lot.

Relax, It's Just Fishing.
Fly fishing is all about making 90' casts with perfect presentation, remote lodges in exotic countries, trophy fish, and owning the best gear. Right?... Right??
Well, we're not saying it isn't those things. It definitely can be. But for us, and probably most people, the reason we all started fishing in the first place, is simply that it's pretty dang fun.
