08-03-2026While you may get a zebco closed face combo for a little cheaper, I really like this rod and the reel. The reel seems a little better than a standard zebco with nice smooth reeling, switchable handle, drag, reverse reeling lock, and channels/grip pads on cylinder to hold line while putting line on reel.The combo comes with 150 yards on 4lb tests that I was able to get all on the reel with room for some more (probably 200 yards worth). My techinique includes soaking the line on its spool in hot water for 15 minutes before winding on the reel. This is supposed to help prevent bird nests by heating the line so its resting diameter is the same as the reel instead of the larger diameter spool its been on since the factory.

The rod is very lightweight, which makes it easy for kids to handle and control. The reel works smoothly, and the overall build feels solid. While it’s designed for ice fishing, the shorter length actually works well for fishing from docks or small ponds where long casts aren’t needed. 08-03-2026Nice solid fiberglass pole and nice little real, perfect for my area not only for ice fishing as I read but for small boats or pier fishing in the local river. The reel mechanics are nice and smooth and easy to use, the toggle to allow for one way movement of the handle or two is nice and clicks into place nicely to let you know it is set. It came with a real of 4lbs test line that was plenty to fill the reel. All in all a nice light weight kit that will do well for me.
