I'd been thinking about buying the Camp Chef Explorer 2 Burner Range for a few years, after it was recommended to me by a friend who also does a lot of canning. I'm so glad I finally did! This is perhaps the best Amazon purchase I've made all year. Not only does this range allow us to do as much canning as we want without turning our tiny, unvented kitchen into a sauna, but it is FAST. I haven't timed it yet, but it heats up our 5 gallon stockpot to a simmer incredibly quickly. With it, we've been able to put up dozens of quarts of chicken stock, tomatoes, pickles, hot sauce, and more in a fraction of the time it normally takes. It lights easily, is easy enough for me to carry on my own (without propane tank attached, of course), the windscreen has worked for me on even fairly windy days, and I've been able to use it in the garage (with the garage door open) when it rains, with no problem. It was very easy to put together, and is incredibly sturdy. In fact, when my husband opened the box, he was immediately concerned that I'd spent a ton of money on it (due to its readily apparent quality) and was astonished to find out I only paid about $100. I'm planning to slowly buy the accessories for it, like the double-sided grill pan/griddle, carrying case, etc. This range will definitely be my primary cooking range all summer long.
absolute cat's meow for outside cooking. super hot burners that also give a perfect simmer setting. we use it when the power goes out.Its not lightweight crappy tire stuff, this thing is well built and you can use big big pots on it due to it's super heavy duty construction. highly recommend.
I like this thing, a lot. The flame is awesome. It's a little rickety on those stick legs but I haven't had any issues.I only wish the burners were slightly more centered for better heat distribution. It works great for 2 regular pans. It's only when I use my griddle that I have this wish.Oh, its a dream for wok cooking.
Magnificent propane stove, very well made and extremely robust. Pleasantly surprised to find it came with a cast-iron griddle / plate included. Have already used it frequently and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Excellent produit
Well...very easy to put together.I had to buy the griddle, stove and bbq box separately but it was pretty close to the price of the tailgaiter model so don't wait ...2 days delivery all 3..Griddle is kinda seasoned I didn't do much but spray it down after sitting in the sun with some some.pam..Wipe it down good a few times it'll be alright ....it's cast iron not rocket science...burners take some getting used to they go.out if your not watching...that's not unusual....I basically took this out of the box and 15 minutes later I was making bacon, brats and a baked potato...baked beans in the bbq box...I dont have an issue with the legs being uneven it sits in stone just wiggle it a bit.The hole in the griddle for grease to drain is in the left front corner...unless you tilt that way it will not drain...the back of the 14" griddle has a large trough catches all the grease from.the bacon I fried ..It's very easy to soak.it up.with a couple paper towels ....the hole in the front left just seems awkward I like the grease going toward the back leaves the food less oily.1 # of bacon is mostly grease .Just soak.it up.im the back and toss it in the trash what you dont want.Dont be getting all fancy with this thing it's a big ass propane stove you can use your own griddle ..cast iron skillets...pots and pans ...you can heat up the griddle and put pots pans and skillets on it.Mark the knobs might help to know where 350 degrees ....nothing below that cooks well ....that's the minimum...the bbq box is great for keeping stuff hot and made some awesome beans and a baked potato.Lot of folks complain about the wind guard but I have not got that issue. It is hard to see the burner to light it when you are set up...get the long lighter you hafta bend over and look from below if you have your griddle and bbq box on Pain in the ass. My only complaintI saw some videos of these with people using an infrared heat sensor to see what the temp.was....don't get silly it's a skillet and a oven in the simplest form if you can cook .....if you are you looking for a pretty basic stove that can don't all I'd say get this.one...No doubt I haven't used it much but after one time I find it to be durable and pretty well made...The bbq box is pretty awesome it is like a home oven and has a nice thermometer built in..actually quite a heavy item. You can use your own skillets..pots.pans with just the stove but the bbq box and 14" griddle are very nice....still working on the bbq box as far as what to cook...making baked potatos..Like I said don't get too fancy with this thing..it is a bad ass outdoor propane stove you can do anything with if you can cook .I bought the bbq box..14" griddle and the stove itself for 357$...camp chef did not have the tailgater which is the same 3 items...but seriously..if you have a propane tank you be 5 minutes and this thing is cookin...Definitely get the grill box...I give this thing thumbs up first day using it ....put it together 5 minutes....watch the flame it goes up and down....go to harbor freight get some magnetic hangers hold yer stuff on the side for 3$.Definitely get the bbq box....u can use your own skillets and griddle and pots and pans..get the box...good stuff .
I have not used this item yet, just received it. But I wanted to leave my impressions now, and I'll update later if it rates less than 5 stars.1. This thing is BIG. It's bigger than I thought. It's as wide as a standard house stove/oven. This is not a bad thing, but you should know what you're getting.2. The burners are MASSIVE. There's a reason it's listed at 30k BTU, because this thing means business.3. It will operate as a table-top unit, and if I can figure out how to get the pics off my phone (used to, now can't), I'll show you. But you'll need a big table. Think picnic table size. The little camp tables are totally inadequate. And since the legs it comes with are plenty sturdy - there's not much need. Nevertheless - it will sit on a table just fine.4. I also bought the reversible griddle for it. It's a perfect fit and was designed for this unit. I plan to buy a second one so I can fully utilize both sides or either side when cooking. It's probably overkill - but I like having more than I need rather than not enough.5. I very much like the modular approach with this unit. And while the separate pieces will add up in price, the base unit alone I considered a bargain compared to smaller table-top units you commonly buy for camping - which are very close to the same price anyway. The quality is clearly there, and the K.I.S.S. principle alive and well in the design.6. The kind of camping you do has an impact here. I plan to do car/tent camping for the most part, with the idea of extended stays. And I intend to do some real cooking while out there. Camp Chef is an appropriate name for the brand and this unit.7. I'm a personal fan of designs where form follows function, to the point where it ends up becoming art. That's how I see this piece.8. When I got this unit, the Amazon box it came in was pristine, but the box for the Camp Chef itself was dented. Furthermore, it was clear that it had been retaped. First thought was I was getting someone else's return, which obviously worried me. But the unit was fine, and I concluded it had been opened to ensure the unit hadn't been damaged - so now I'm happy.9. I failed to get the carry bag that's available for it. That's a mistake I will rectify next week. It deserves a bag: this is something you'll want to protect for years to come. There's no reason for me to think it won't last decades with just a little care.10. There is no electric start with this unit. If you've got to have that, this isn't the unit for you. My personal opinion goes back to the K.I.S.S. principle: it's one less thing to eventually break or go wrong, more parts that might need replacing later. I would PREFER a camp lighter. They're cheap and you can have several just in case.11. My unit came with the propane hose attached, so you only need the propane tank and you're in business.12. The legs and the windscreen came with a bag to hold them, which was a nice surprise. That will help with them not getting scratched or lost. One last thing: I looked extensively over all the table-top units by various manufacturers, with the intention of buying one of them. None of them felt right: all seemed to have some sort of problem or drawback. Either quality/longevity, or windscreen problems, or connector problems or burner issues or too hot with no adequate low setting. Something. So when I found this, although it's probably more than I need - I knew for certain it wasn't going to be LESS than I needed, and it had the option to grow with my expertise if I wanted it to. So now, having seen it in person - I know it was the right decision for me.
This is a great burner. I have used mine for several years and have given several away as gifts
