The Zara Spook invented the walk-the-dog retrieve almost 75 years ago. All others are just posers. Designed to allow you to control the lure's action; with a slack-line twitch of the rod tip that creates the left right, 'walk the dog' action. These lures have a reputation of drawing fish from as far away as 20 feet and the strikes are vicious. Be sure to allow the line to tighten up before you set the hook. Fish: All Bass Stripers, Northern Pike, Muskie, Redfish, Speckled Trout (Weakfish) and Bluefish. Equipment: Light to medium spinning/baitcasting - 8-14 pound test line. Lure Length: 3" | Hooks: Two, #6 treble hooks.

08-03-2026Tried the Zara puppy out based on all the positive feedback. It’s mentioned in tons of articles/ fishing guides as a must have. Put it on my son’s new line, cast it off the dock at night for him and after just a couple seconds reeling I had a hit before I could even pass him the rod. Only problem was the fish ran and got tangled on something. I could feel him pulling but the line was hard stuck on whatever cover he ran into and the line ended up snapping. First cast! I guess the fish liked it but it didn’t last. I hope that fish got himself free and he isn’t swimming around with a Zara puppy stuck in his lip.
