By the time I had my second child I was soberly aware of the dangers of BPA and many other plastics, so I sought out a natural rubber pacifier. After a couple of duds, we found this. It's great! My daughter is 18 months and still uses the small rounded size.First and foremost, it had to be safe. And this is, in many different ways. Made from natural rubber and oils, I am not concerned about contaminating plastics. The shape is awesome; it cleans up easily and has no cracks for bacteria to hide when cleaning and sterilizing. When it first comes out of the box, it is oily. As others have mentioned, after you wash for the first time, instructions say to boil for a few minutes. Let it cool and you'll see the oils have been tamed. My daughter loves this paci. We once ran out of them after I noticed a crack on the side of the nipple (my fault - I let it go much longer than the recommended 6 weeks between replacement). That was a very long a night. I tried a few chemical laden replacements until I could get a new shipment in to no avail. All that being said, these are expensive. And the cost doubles when you realize that you are supposed to replace them every 6 weeks or so. Much longer than that and the pacifiers start to harden. But for all the benefits, I will continue to use these and have some peace of mind knowing I am using the safest product.
I purchased a two set of this exact same brand dummy in orthodontic version for my newborn. I was hesitant to buy it considering our experience trying to ween our second child of the dummy at the age of 2. In the past I bought the Hevea brand (also natural rubber). He was completely dependent on it and his teeth were pushed out as a result. However, after a few weeks he gradually stopped asking for it and over time his teeth have moved back and are completely straight now. Despite the negatives of using a dummy/pacifier, it is a great go to for soothing an upset baby, so I ended up buying a pair. He has taken to the orthodontic ones fine. Generally just chews on it but sometimes will suck on it and it helps to soothe him and get him to sleep. I wanted to try the rounded version and I guess I should have read the reviews or paid attention to the pictures because when I received it, I have to admit I was shocked at how small the teat is (especially in comparison to the Hevea brand!). The sizing is also a bit ridiculous... 0-6 months?? Surely their mouth grows a fair bit over this time period. It would make sense having them 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-24 months etc. On the plus side it's a great make and I love that it is natural rubber and made it Italy, so you would expect great quality, which it is. It does not smell bad at all. Always sterilise before use. I generally put it in a cup of boiling water for about 5-10 minutes and it's ready to use. Unfortunately though, my son will not take it and prefers the orthodontic version. It's a hit and miss.
So I heard from other moms about how great these pacifiers are.... I was hesitant to even give my daughter a pacifier but at 8 weeks, our pediatrician convinced us that she would still breastfeed and that I wouldn't be kicking myself when she was 4 trying to get rid of the thing. My daughter was starting to suck on her hand/fingers and the pedi said it's easier to take away a paci than her hand..... Don't you hate when they make so much sense like that? So we held out till 8 weeks and she hated all pacifiers except the soothies. She would keep them in for a couple minutes and then spit them out, cry until we gave it back, and repeat. My husband at first said heck no to buying these since they are 4 times as much as the soothies, but finally I convinced him that if she didn't like them, we would never buy them again, but it was worth a shot.... Go figure, she loves these! Honestly, these are the only ones she will keep in her mouth, so they are all we use. She is 3 months old now, and still spits out the soothies after a minute or so, but keeps the Natursuttens in much better. I hate to say that it's worth the extra money, but really, it's worth it! Also, we have had no issues breastfeeding or bottle feeding with these or the soothies, I don't know if that's because we waited or not, but I have friends that started using these from birth and have had no issues, so I highly recommend them!
All three of our babies have used this brand and this particular design and they have all loved it! (Our first actually went through a few brands and designs before we got to this one and this was the favorite). All our babies have been nursed and there have been no issues with nipple confusion. The round base seems best so that they don't suck on the pacifier in one position and wear out the nipple quicker (see the other natursutten designs to see the ones with bases that leave space for the nose). We don't mind that the round base touches the nose and it actually seems like it might help sooth them as well.Of course, we also love that it's rubber, natural, and one piece. I highly recommend getting a boogin head pacigrip pacifier clip (the ones with the metal clips!) because those actually stay attached to kids clothes and then you'll never loose these slightly pricey but totally worth it pacifiers. We never had an issue with these becoming an attachment or long habit either. They used them less and less just like they nursed less and less and each child came to a point when they didn't seem to depend on them or use them as often, so I just took them away. No issues. My oldest was around 1 year old, and the second was almost 7 months old when he didn't need it anymore.

The handle is too bulky. Falls out of mouth too easy. There are better designs out there.

Better For Baby & Our Planet
Natursutten is a one-piece pacifier sustainably made from 100% natural rubber latex in Italy.
Softer than silicone and no joints or cracks for yucks to get into!
No artificial color, no parabens, and no chemicals.
How did we get our start?Established in 2006, and owned by a mother of three. The design, the company and the idea is Danish, and our product is manufactured exclusively in Italy.
Why do we love what we do?“The media is full of stories about recalls and harmful plastics.
As a new mother, I thought about how many hours my son was going to have a pacifier in his mouth, and I was determined to find a truly safe alternative.
I felt I owed that to my child and other babies around the world – to do better.”

The 100% natural rubber line of pacifiers made in Italy.
Natursutten pacifiers are made with all-natural rubber, with no BPA, phthalates, or chemical softening agents.
The patented, one-piece design is free of joints or cracks where dirt can accumulate, and the pacifiers are easier to clean.
Crafted in Italy by a family-run business, each Natursutten pacifier takes 7 weeks and 20 hand-held steps to go from liquid sap to finished product.
Since the rubber from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree is softer than the silicone in mass-produced pacifiers, your baby will enjoy a gentler, more natural feel.
The first thing you’ll notice is the single-piece design. This means no joints or cracks where yucky things can hide, and it’s easy to wash by hand with just mild soap and warm water. Natursutten’s construction adheres to the strictest European and U.S. safety standards. Babies love our Natursutten pacifiers. One reason may be the soft rubber, which has a more natural feel than the artificial silicone used in mass- produced pacifiers. You’ll understand at first touch.

Anne-Dorthe Schroeder started Natursutten (which means 'natural pacifier' in Danish) in 2006 when she couldn’t find a healthy option for her newborn son. “The media is full of stories about dangerous baby gear, recalls, and harmful plastics. As a new mother, I thought about how many hours my son was going to have a pacifier in his mouth, and I was determined to find a truly safe alternative. I felt I owed it to my child and other babies around the world – to do better.”
