PurAmino is a hypoallergenic, iron fortified, amino acid-based infant formula used for infants and toddlers with severe cow's milk protein allergies, and other food allergies. It also is suitable for conditions such as protein maldigestion, malabsorption/chronic diarrhea, short bowel syndrome & eosinophilic esophagitis. PurAmino is created by the maker of Nutramigen-the #1 recommended brand for managing infants who are allergic to cow's milk protein. By pediatricians who recommend a specific formula. Enfamil is the #1 pediatrician recommended brand of Infant Formula - QuintilesIMS, using the ProVoice Survey fielded from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017.
This product is designed for infants and toddlers with severe food/milk allergies and other gastrointestinal conditions. I am actually trying this out with a senior adult in my family who needs nutritional supplementation and cannot tolerate anything on the market that is for "adults" - we have searched high and low for something to add nutrition and calories so when I saw this, I decided to try it. So far, they have had absolutely no reaction to this, and this is someone who reacts to EVERYTHING. One scoop of this adds 500 calories and a little over 15 grams of protein. We can add 1/2 a scoop to a smoothie and get what we need for a meal so I am pleasantly surprised that this appears to be working. We are looking only at protein and calories for our situation, not the other vitamins, minerals, etc though those are a bonus. I am so thankful we saw this and were able to try it. It blends up perfectly in a smoothie and is a quick way for me to get extra calories into this family member's diet.
Our son has not been diagnosed as lactose-intolerant, but normal milk does seem to upset his stomach. And he is also allergic to some other foods. So when I saw this PurAmino Junior formula, I wanted to try it to see if it would be a good choice for him. This is the unflavored version, but you can also order this in vanilla flavor. I have tried both, and he does seem to prefer the vanilla one. But so far he has not had an upset stomach or any allergic reactions to either flavor, so I'm happy with the results so far. Although this formula is very expensive compared to other brands, I plan to keep ordering it for my son.
I got it on time but it only had one month left to it's expiration date.
This one blends up well without any kind of grit left behind.Really is so much easier on sensitive stomachs than others have tried.Great that is has so many other nutrients that are much needed at a young age.Do wish it was a bit healthier though with some of the other ingredients but maybe that is how it has to be in order to be easy enough for many with issues to be able to tolerate this one.Still wish someone could come up with ones that don't have such a smell to them.Good idea to try just one container before getting a bulk pack even though cheaper by the ounce when doing that. The vanilla is a tad bit better tasting than this one or so I would imagine since it is more preferred to this one when offered.
Not only for toddlers, this is excellent for adults with food sensitivities who need to be careful of everything they ingest. We mix it into smoothies and it is tolerated well. It's a game changer for us. We are thrilled with this and will continue using it.
Super expensive, super small can and smells disgusting. I have to use this due to severe food allergies but I’ll be looking for one with flavor to help my toddler drink this
We have a medically challenged child that has absorption and digestion issues. We've tried other brands which have worked, but flavors/tastes were inconsistent. This was a nice alternative to give a try, just in case we needed something new/different.As I mentioned, we've used quite a few of these types of formula, and as far as effectiveness, they all worked well enough as did this one. However, when it came to flavor, this was lacking, even though it's advertised as flavorless. It wasn't flavorless per se, it had a somewhat metallic after taste. We had to add quite a bit more banana to overcome the metallic taste. As for cost, this is on the more expensive side of medical foods for children. Not sure if this is cost effective to be the primary source of milk nutrition for medically fragile children. But it is a good back up.
My son has had a formula intolerance his whole life, and we just found out thats the reason he's sick after almost doing surgery. He's almost 2. This is the only formula that he's been able to tolerate. 43$ is a bit much for a small can if you ask me, but its the only thing he'll tolerate.
