I’ve been using this carabiner mainly for rigging with a Rock Exotica Omni pulley and occasionally with a thimble sling, and it’s held up really well. The triple-action lock feels super secure and doesn’t accidentally open, which is something I always look for when I’m up in a tree or moving gear around. I like that the gate strength is printed right on there too just one less thing to second-guess when setting up.It’s definitely on the heavy and bulky side, so I wouldn’t use it for personal life support or climbing situations where every ounce counts. I stick with aluminum for that. But for production work, industrial setups, or arborist rigging where strength matters more than weight, this is a great piece to have in the kit. Feels solid in hand, and for the price it’s hard to beat.
This carabiner was just what I was looking for to get up in a tree on our property for some pruning work.I wish it was UIAA certified, but the manufacturer at least says it meets the European EN362:2004 standard. I inspected its construction and action very closely and found nothing to concern me. Both pins are well secured with a thoroughly developed "mushroom" head to secure them from backing out. See my close-up photo. The auto-locking triple action worked smoothly and consistently. It's the same function as my Petzl Sm'D "Triact" uses. This worked very nicely as a part of a moving rope system. After climbing to a limb I'd looped my rope over I'd tie off independently and then unclip this with my main rope and use the weight of it to help sling the rope over the next higher targeted limb. In this application its weight is actually a benefit.
I plan to use this for two purposes. First is to simply hold up my hammock which this is way overkill. I also plan to have it on hand as a backup shackle for my recovery strap. It's strong enough, has the weight capacity and is the right size. The locking feature will keep it security closed like a shackle. The lock is a little different. It doesn't screw, but you have to lift and twist before you can open it. It works well, though and is easy to use unless you want to do it one-handed.
I ordered this carabiner to use for tree work. not for climbing. I'm confident that it's substantially stronger than anything I need for roping limbs and trees down. The description says, "Compliant with Z359.12 standards and CE certification..." It does not say that it's actually certified, only that it meets the standards. There is no certification mark on the carabiner. It's heavy, which isn't significant for arborist applications. The construction and finish and the operation of the locking gate are all very good. The locking mechanism is particularly secure.
I have a lot of different Steel carabiners and this one looks very similar but has a different style of auto-lock. They claim a "double-lock" design, but in reality its a triple-lock. You have to slightly lift the collar, then rotate, then finally open the gate. This makes opening one-handed nearly impossible. None of my other 10K rated steel carabiners operate this way. Other than that, the carabiner appears to be identical to others models in this class. Same weight, same D-Design. Very durable, high quality, heavy duty steel with clear markings for weight rating/certification. Don't get me wrong this is still way easier than a threaded gate, but its just an odd manufacturing choice. Only 1 star off for this anomaly.
This Heavy Duty Climbing Carabiner is very heavy and feels like good quality. I look forward to using it with my climbing harness this coming summer.
Talk about heavy duty! This thing it means business. I am happy with the overall construction and the flip and lock clap works exactly as intended and you can just tell it just screams quality. Very happy with everything!
Now this is one seriously rugged carabiner! It is thick, heavy and very sturdy. The metal is strongly attracted to magnets, indicating it some kind of ferromagnetic material, most likely with a high level of iron. That suggests that the advertisement as "rustproof" likely stems from the coating on the metal, not the metal itself. I don't mind if mine gets rained on from time to time, but I will not be using it for any application that keeps it outside on a regular basis and subjected to precipitation. The locking mechanism is strong and robust. It took me awhile to figure our how to open it, but now I can do it one-handed. For comparison, my teenage daughter opened it in about 3 seconds first try, so I guess I am not smarter than a teenager!
