This Pandora Box arcade console brought that arcade feeling into my living room. It comes packed with a huge library of classic titles, but the menu still makes it easy to jump back to your go to games. Setup was straightforward, I plugged it into the TV and was playing within a couple of minutes. Games load quickly and the whole thing feels snappy and responsive, not clunky or slow. The picture looks clean on a modern screen, and pixel art games in particular really shine. The joystick and buttons are the star of the show. They feel like real arcade controls, which makes a big difference with fighting games and older action games that need quick reactions. Inputs register right away with no sense of lag, so combos and precise moves feel satisfying. Because there are two separate consoles connected together, two players each get their own space, which keeps things comfortable during longer sessions. With friends or family on the couch, scrolling through the massive list of games and shouting out old favorites has become half the fun. For anyone who loves retro gaming and wants that arcade vibe at home without a full cabinet, this hits the sweet spot.
The first thing I’m going to say is that you should buy a wireless HDMI adapter to go with this thing. I have a spot for it in my office when I’m playing while standing up, but I plugged in the HDMI when I’m in the living room, so that I can sit on the couch and play. Otherwise you’re going to have a long cable stretching from the couch to the tv. I have mine setup to connect to a projector, which is really cool because it’s less sharp than a tv which feeds into the nostalgia. When I first turned it on, I was a little overwhelmed by how many games are on it. But there’s a search function so you can filter by category or search for a specific game. Otherwise you’re going to be turning through 100s of pages of games lol. It’s a ton of fun and if you can get it setup at a standing desk, it’ll really get you into that nostalgic mode of standing at an arcade. There are soooo many games on it. I’ve only played like 10 so far. You’re gonna get your moneys worth if you only play the top 100 lol.The only thing I don’t like about it is that the audio comes out of the device instead of the HDMI connection. But it sounds more arcadey that way so it’s not enough of an issue to remove a star. It’s a little pricey at $150 but it’s really cool looking and like I said, you’ll get your moneys worth from a small subset of the games.
I really love classic 80’s arcade games but playing them on a PC or tablet isn’t as much fun as playing them with their original controls. This system lets you plug the controller box directly into your TV via HDMI and then you have access to over 30,000 arcade games. I found a few favorites that I started to play and really enjoyed going back to the classic sights, sounds, and game play of some of my favorite games when I was younger. The 3 big challenges with this system are that it is difficult to sort through the 32,000 games to find your favorites, configuring the buttons and controls to work correctly can often take a lot of work, and the overall build quality isn’t great as one of the buttons just stopped working after a few minutes of playing. I think this is a great console system for fans of retro games who don’t mind tinkering with each game and has the time to search through all the duplicates and strange ports of games to find their favorites.
Pandora Box Arcade Console with 32000 Games in 1, 1280x720 Full HD Retro Gaming Machine for TV, Monitor, and Projector, 3D Games Support 1-4 Players, Search/Save/Hide/Pause FunctionsI had high hopes for this. Always wanted one of those 1up cabinets, and this seemed 10 times better. Unfortunately, they used low-quality components, and the software looks flashy as heck, but is a confusing experience to use.Even before plugging it in, I kind of knew what it was going to be like. Pushing the fire buttons just doesn't feel "right" to me. Very loud click and way too much resistance. I've played hundreds of arcade cabinets, and never found any with buttons like these ones. For whatever reason, the buttons used for Coin & Start are different. Not as clicky and less resistance. If they had just used those types of buttons for the whole cabinet it would be so much better.Joysticks weren't much better, The 'right' direction on one of the joysticks has this annoying habit of doubling the movement. Try to move the on-screen indicator one box to the right and it moves two. Like the buttons, they are about the cheapest joysticks you can get. Very similar to my Zippy sticks, which I picked up for less than $10 each (at least I knew what I was getting when I bought them). Diagonals are very difficult to hit properly with these sticks, making 8-way games quite maddening. The on-screen interface boots up super fast, I will say. However, the way they have the games "organized" is just horrible. Instead of being sectioned off by system, everything is just mixed together by type. Under Shooters, you will find Atari 2600 Combat, arcade Time Pilot, NES, Japanese stuff you've never heard of, etc. It's all just jumbled together. To make it worse, the majority of games have had their names changed AND the little graphic icon thing is of a different game. For example, Pooyan is called "PiggieShootsWolves". Berzerk is "RobotSmileFace". Yea, they literally just describe some of the games instead of just listing the real name.My only hope is maybe there is a way to install Batocera or something, but so far, I know of no other front-ends that will work.
